I came to a realization that I do not possess a .22 caliber double action revolver and I would really like to have one. Prices for new or used S&W .22s are quite high so I started looking for an alternative. I stumbled upon a 6" blue Dan Wesson .22 and believe the model name is M22. Is that right? The one I'm looking at appears to have a four digit serial number and is a Monson made gun. It's like new in the box with the checkered wood grips with the DWA medallions.
The asking price is $495 but with tax, shipping, and FFL charge, it would come in around $560 or so. I could drive to the shop about 3+ hours away, do the paper, and then pick it up at a gun show in two weeks. That would knock $50 in shipping and FFL transfer fees off, but add in the cost of my gas and 6 hours roundtrip of my time. Ugh. Better to just pay the $50 I'm realizing as I type this.
$495 seems like a good price for a beautiful DW .22 like this. I remember reading about them in the magazines back in the late 70's and early 80's and I'm sure the reviews were all good. Is there anything I should know about trigger pull and accuracy?
I'd like one just to practice double action shooting and reloading. While a S&W .22 would transfer the shooting mechanics (cylinder latch, DA trigger pull, etc) to my larger caliber Smiths, I don't have a DW and I like different things. It would just be a plinking/target gun for fun.
Is $495 plus the extra costs a good deal?
Thanks in advance for your replies!

mm6mm6, First to the . Home to all of us with . I do own a modell 22 blued as you are looking at, mine also has a 4-digit serial number and has some of finest bluing of any of my Dan's. It shoots much more accuratelly than my S&W 617 as well. The price you are looking at probably reflects about market in most areas, not a bargain nor a robbery either. If the gun is as nice as you describe I don't believ you will go wrong. I bought mine at a gun show also and it had the 8" Vented barrell at the time. I lucked into a $300.00 deal that day. Most times on the auctions they are over $400.00 depending on condition and choice of barrell length and type. Hope this helps a bit

Buy it! If it's in the condition described, it's reasonable, and DW .22's (or any quality .22 lr revolver) are less common and pretty desireable. Don't forget with a DW, you buy a different barrel length, and you've got "another" gun.
I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.
