A man's guns are personal things. He can't really explain why he owns what he does...and he can't really explain why he likes what he does...least I can't.
I had the chance to buy a pair of 15-2 revolvers with consecutive serial numbers and I did. When they arrived one had a real Barney frame. I privately asked some group members what they thought I should do. I got the opinions I asked for, but the underlying thought was "They're yours...do what you want to."
I called Ford's Custom Gun Refinishing and asked some questions. I got the rates and asked about any guarantee on re-bluing a Barney frame. I was told that if it has turned plum it will most likely return even after professional re-bluing. I thought about it...finally sending the matching frames and a set of four solid-rib barrels to Ford's with some specific instructions...including chrome plating the Barney frame (which I was assured would keep Barney at bay).
They did an excellent job and they are working on a couple of Colts for me now. Here's how the Dans turned out and I'm sure you can see why I dubbed them my Pinto-Pik-A-Pak. If you ever see them for sale it's because I've moved on and wasn't able to take them with me.

Really nicely done. Fords has a great reputation, apparently well deserved.
Consecutive Serial numbers and contrasting finishes? DAMN!
I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.
