Got my 741 back that I sent in for .006" endshake. Most of the endsahke was in the crane.
Things they did;
1)Fit and replaced hand (didn't know it was bad)
2)Installed crane lock. No more movement.
3)Installed headspace shim. What is a headspace shim and where is it?
4)Test fired for function. (they must have a barrel and shroud for a 41 mag as I didn't send the barrel shroud to them as I was saving shipping costs)
I bought a feeler gauge and rubber grip. Not sure I like the grip but will see how it feels when I shoot it.
Without shooting it, it feels like a new gun.
Is this common with sending in a DW revolver for endshake repair? If I find another DW revolver that has endshake, can DW fix it every time or is there a point where the revolver is worn out?

That's usually a very thin shim between the front of the cylinder & the crane...don't lose that if you take it apart.
I can't say if these same repairs are common from sending a gun home to "Mother DW" for endshake repair, but I do know that they normally go through it & make it good as new...regardless of what it's initial symptoms were.
Let us know how your first range report ends up. I imagine it will run like a new gun.

The wrong grip screw or a grip screw to tight can cause hammer not to engage.
Don't know if this is your problem but worth a check.

Very likely first choice on the problem, especially if you are using that new grip. I sometimes need to put a washer on the grip screw to keep it from going in too far and causing this exact problem, a problem caused by slight variations in the depth of that grip screw pocket. The rubber grip (if that's what you're using) may have just a little extra give, allowing the grip screw to seat too far in.
I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

The crane is rock solid as was the cylinder when I got it.
I can now move the cylinder back and forth and up and down on the crane. Wounder if the headspace gauge/shim went bad. Before I sent it in there was a lot of back and forth play on the but I didn't notice any up and down but that doesn't mean there was not any.
What holds the cylinder on the crane? Could or can that become lose?
