I recently bought a really mint Colt Diamondback in 38spl. On it's first trip to the range, I took along my 4" model 15 for comparison.
After putting a box of generic 38's downrange through each of them, I couldn't help but notice that the DW groups were half the size of the Colt's.
Bottom line: the Colt may win the beauty contest, and the action is slicker than snot, but I would leave it home if I were trying to put some meat in the freezer.

I have both a 4" .38 Special Diamondback and a Dan Wesson 15-2 with interchangeable barrels. I've done a lot of reloading experimentation with them. When I use the Dan's 4" barrel, they both like the exact same .38 Special load: a 130 grain lead round nosed flat point (cowboy style) bullet, crimped at the crimping groove, and 4.2 grains of Red Dot powder. I use mixed .38 Special brass and whatever standard small pistol primer I have handy. The guns shoot that load equally well. The Colt offers much lighter weight, while the Dan offers the flexibility of .357 magnum rounds. That load is the most accurate I have found for the 4" Dan.
I like them both and shoot them both.
