I'm afraid I'm getting drawn into this thing dwas<g>.

I picked up a 4V, 6V, and 8V barrel assemblies today for my 15-2 6". The 4V and 6V shrouds are in nice condition, but the 8V has  pitting in three areas. Eventually I'd like to get it reblued (probably the entire set and gun so they'd match), but in the meantime I'd like to touch up the pitting via steel wool and perhaps some Oxpho-Blue or other agent to halt the corrosion and improve the looks a bit.

Is this a reasonable thing to do? Anybody have experience doing this?

Oxpho Blue is my favorite for home 'smithing projects.  If nothing else, you'll learn with a DIY project; I always do.  As with anything- preparation is the key to success.

Technically, the glass is always full; half liquid, half air....

USE a heat gun or hair dryer on metal before applying will really help bluing take.

Thanks for the tips, guys.  I believe I'll try Oxpho Blue on the barrel first, as there's a bit of corrosion there also.  That will allow me to practice my technique before messing with the shroud itself.  I've read elsewhere that using fine steel wool with the bluing agent works well for spots.
