A few weeks ago, "Catch-21" put up a WIW thread regarding a Model 15 Porkchop & shoulder holster he was interested in selling. It's not a safe queen, has been carried a bunch & has some light speckles of surface rust going on in areas, but there were features about it that intrigued me right from the start. We came to a price agreement & a ride to Utah followed shortly.
The action was pretty stiff & it was a little dirty, so a good scrubbing was in order. Once I had it apart, it was obvious that this gun hasn't been fired much...just carried & fondled a lot. After removing some dirt & dust bunnies from the action, I lubed it & slapped it back together...well it's still stiff, but much better.
Today was a nice sunny day, so I slapped on some wax & grabbed the camera. (Jody, I don't have any large pics...I had the camera on the wrong setting. )

The grips are pretty small for a barrel this long, so I think I'll probably use these Pachmayr's for a while, that were shipped with my .375 SuperMag. 😛

As most of you know, Porkchops were the first style of the Dan Wesson guns made, when the company was first getting it's start. As a result, they went through a bunch rapid, flowing changes in those first few years, in an affort to make that perfect gun that would be loved & respected by all.
Finding examples of these changes is what really holds my interest in these old 'Chops. A guy could easily have 20 'Chops all laid out on a table & there would be something unique about each one. There's two unique thing about this particular gun, that set it apart from any others I currently own.
First is the barrel nut. It's lost the sharp 12-pointed look on the previous models, instead uses 12 flutes cut into an otherwise smooth nut. The older tool fits, but a 5/8 box end wrench fits better.

The other difference is the model roll marking on the frame. Spelling out the model & manufacture location using four lines, previous models used three. Like the earlier models, the serial number is still stamped under the crane.

Hot on the heels of the 'Chop deal, came a .375 SuperMag being auctioned off on GB. I have been looking for one for a while & really wanted this one bad! It wasn't cheap, but it did come with an extra barrel & the seller threw in a manual, tool & grip that he later found. When it arrived, I discovered that the grip was for a small frame (the one on the 'Chop above) & the wrench was for a .44 Mag. Oh well.
I popped that grip medallion out first thing & stuck it back in right.

This gun is sweet! I'd wager a bet that it was formerly owned by an IHMSA shooter, because it's been shot a fair amount & the trigger has had work...the pull on it is probably in the 1 pound range, really light & crisp. The gun has been well cared for, but does have a bit of clouding going on in the bluing in areas.

I also grabbed this grip from eGouge this week, can't wait to see how it feels on the next day at the range!

One last glamour shot. 😛 I should have used a different flavor of fabric on my table, this red's a tad bright.

Yep, I've got a box of 20...some of it's in a couple of those pics. I should have gone today, but I wanted to make sure that & the 'Chop were good to go. One thing led to another & I ended up waxing & taking pics instead.
I'm gonna try to get out to my "range" tomorrow, otherwise it'll be next weekend.
Shoot, thanks for the confidence vote on the red.

Thanks, LB.
Geez, I just about forgot about the brass that came with the .375 too. I swear I'm getting more scatterbrained as the years go by.
There are 200 cut & resized 30-30 Winchester cases & a box of 50 unfired .375 IHMSA cases. (blurry because my cat head-butted me as I took the pic)

This case may require a date with a drill bit.

Very nice new additions there! Like the pics too, especially the sunburst. That finger-groove grip you got on E-Barf is my favorite...that will make the .375 most pleasant to shoot. Interesting piece of brass there. I've found a few over the years like that.
Go shoot them and let us know how they do.
