I have not written much for awhile, been just plain too busy for much of anything it seems.  I did get a chance to go to the range on Sunday while everybody else was getting ready for the Superbowl, yes it was planned wink.  My father and I spent a few hours just enjoying shooting with just about nobody else at the shooting benches in clear weather, it was pleasant.  I took along my new to me 745 from last year's aquisitions, first time for me to shoot it.  I had loaded some formidable rounds with both H4227 and H110 pushing 240gr. XTP's, loading was for the Ruger and Freedom Arms only section, but we know Dan's can handle it.  At 25-yards I was just catching the top of the paper with the sight pinned down all the way so not much was fired this day, came home and installed a taller patridge front sight for the next time out, that should solve it.  I also took along my Lil Dan and some +P 125 grain handloads.  At 15-yards these were all high??  can't move these sights, suppose more load development to follow.  Slight problem with Lil Dan, in single action mode the hammer falls only halfway at first, then with further trigger pull falls to strike the transfer bar.  In double action it works fine.  Any suggestions on this?  I removed the side plate and it works fine in single action with grip removed and sideplate off.

Also took along the Gary Reeder Ultimate Back-up in 500 Linebaugh.  I have shot this revolver several times before and it is fast becoming my favorite single action.  At 25-Yards with target loads, 950FPS-435Gr bullets it is grouping 2-1/2" with no rest.  That is good for my ability.  The recoil is very tolerable as it has 5-port Magnaport.  The only problem with this gun is affording to shoot it as often as it screams shoot me...  All loads are handloaded, but these bullets are expensive.  For those of you who are old time readers here, no foreheads were damaged during this range reportcool

Good to see you here SMF, glad  you got some Dan range time. Any damaged foreheads must have been before my time, I guess I'm not quite an old timer here!

I'm glad you got to shoot some. I had the same problem with my .445 shooting high. They are more of a long range pistol I guess. I finally got mine to shoot close range. You have to use some of that Kentucky windage.

Sounds like a cool outing SMF. Strange problem with the Lil-Dan, never heard of that before but if it worked with the side plate removed i bet a little polishing will fix the problem. Let us know what you find.

That's what I'm thinking, too. Maybe a burr of some sort is catching on something in there? The only problem I've has with my Lil' Dan is the high-n-left POI, but it's getting closer.smile

I'm glad to hear that there was no band-aids needed with this range trip.big-grin

In case it's of any help, here's a shot of mine with the side cover off.

I took my supermag to the range today after work. I ran a few home brewed 44 mags thru it then decided to try out some Reeds 445 loads that came in todays mail.  WOW!  are those Supermag rounds a hoot to shootcool.  A bit hard on the had and elbow though. Shooting them is a very physical experience, almost vicious, but alot of fun.laugh  I should have used the 10" BA but used the 6 sice it was on the gun.  It was a beautiful day to shoot outside and there more folks out than usual in the middle of winter if you can call 50 in Feb. winter.  I noticed that after the second cylinder of SMs, I had the whole shooting table to myself, wonder why?  Now to get busy doing some loading, I picked up some new old stock brass with Gates headstamps that I think will do nicely.  Anybody got a favorite load for the 445?

Anything worth doing is worth doing well.
