Greetings from the PNW. I just acquired this pistol pack, serial 00221x (stamped as S/00221x) which I believe to be from the early 80's.
Several questions!
a) This is going to be a shooter not a collectors piece, so I'm not trying to recreate the original PP, but I would like a copy/reproduction of the owner's manual - what's a good source for that?
b) I will have this as an open carry defensive side arm with the 6" barrel when out on my friend's property in case of bear, cougar, bobcat etc. Suggestions for a pair of synthetic grips - hogue? - and a synthetic holster? It rains here in the PNW and I don't want to have to worry about wood grips or leather holsters.
c) I'm considering equipping the 8" barrel for target shooting (my friends have a range on their property) and small game hunting. Can a scope be mounted by fitting rings into the vents on top of the VH barrel? If so, what make/style of scope rings would work?
Thanks in advance! Riona

They have owners manuals and also scope mounts out on E-Bay. The scope mount is a B-Square clamp-on mount they go for about 150-200 when they have them on E-Bay. The manuals are on E-Bay often and go for 20-30 bucks, some of the members have copies I believe also. That is a very nice pack I have been looking for that exact pack for over a year!!! If you do not mind me asking where did you find it and what was the cost? Welcome to the Forum from Wisconsin.

DA ... Thanks for the pointers on manuals and scope mounts.
With regard to the pistol pack, I've been looking for several months and when this one popped up on guns.com I snagged it. $1,900 plus taxes, titles and fees. No one is selling them for cheap anymore, at least not without a lot of effort browsing local gun shows. Still, it does have all 4 barrels and looks like an original pack, rather than one assembled from separate sources. My one concern is with the serial number on the side of the case, which has been overwritten. The hopeful thing is that the serial number underneath looks to be the same number, so maybe someone did that for clarity rather than to repurpose a non original case. Anyways, she's intended as a shooter not a collectors piece.

It is a beauty and I think it is a fair price for a stainless pack maybe a little high but not terrible. Like I mentioned I have been looking for over a year on GB and other various sites with no luck. Lots of blue packs that the owners think must be made out of Gold they are asking such ridiculous prices, most are not complete and are terrible. Just search Dan Wesson scope mount on E-Bay they come up pretty often but are pricy. I am looking for a nice stainless pack to use as a shooter too.
Luepold makes clamp on rings. Millett does too. Anything that would fit a Python should work on a Dan. I prefer the rings to the heavy B Square mount and rings. Since clamp on rings or mount Mar the top rib you might as well send it to DW and have them D&T it. Holds its point of aim better. Or buy another shroud for a scope. It can be used on any DW small frame. Leave the pistol pack pristine.
I think 1900 for a stainless pack is a very good price. There are far less of them. They often sell in the 2400 range.

Thanks Ole Dog. I certainly would prefer a simpler, lighter solution. Newbie question but who is the best contact at DW - I like your idea to buy a separate shroud direct from DW, have them drill/tap it and fit a scope mount. Kinda like to leave the pistol pack the way it has been the past 40 years. I'd buy an RH BA from EWK but idk if/when they might become available.

I have put Houge Grips on a couple of my DWs. Both 357s and 44s. I like them when I do a lot of shooting. For me, it helps with the accuracy and pain in my old hands. I have bought a couple of Houge grips off of E-Bay for decent prices usully with free shipping.
