Very new to Dan Wessons, with 1 range trip on my new-to-me 15-2 with a 6inch barrel. It's absolutely full of lead, it came that way. After hours of cleaning I took it to the range anyway, it shot great.
I looked at just getting a new barrel when they are back in stock, but thought the fast twist was, different.
Is there another page on the EWK site with standard twist? If I'm just confused please let me know. If it isn't standard, why such a fast twist rate?
I did some searching but couldn't find the answers.
Thanks for any and all help.

I should let Eric (EWK) respond... but I will throw this out:
Stock DW 15-2 was 1/16
So far EWK have been 1/12
So whats the diff: the 1/16 is supposed to be the best all around twist for small faster bullets so a 125gr bullet moving 1400 fps such as found with a standard self defense .357 round.
I on the other hand, shoot mostly 158gr bullets moving 730fps. the "fast twist" barrels (according to google) are better for this round.
I am not familiar with any DW pistol barrels at 1/18... which would be a very very slow twist rate.
Soap Box, Ballot Box, Ammo Box
in that order.

Thanks for the info. I had the understanding that the 16 twist rate for handguns was to allow for heavy bullets, or long bullets. Even auto bottom feeders standarized on 16 inch.
However some revolvers come with 18.75 (Rugers like the GP100 do for one), while Colt Pythons have a 14 inch twist.
I believe the 168 grain Keith will stabilize with a minimum of 25.8 or so. A 125 should I'm sure requires something much slower as it's a shorter bullet, like 30 or 35. (just guessing as I don't know the bullet length)
Pure speculation is that the extra RPM with a heavy bullet may stay stable longer and provide good accuracy at a longer range. The light bullets slow down in velocity and RPM much more quickly. Losing accuracy. Maybe.
Does EWK also have 16inch twist, that I missed? Thought I saw some a few weeks ago.

I for one prefer the faster 1/12 twist. It is excellent for heavy 180-200 grain bullets. I also suspect you wouldn't see any real accuracy issues with bullets even as light as 125 grain. Overstabilization doesn't usually cause many issues until it it gets pretty extreme, I doubt at handgun velocities you will see overspun bullets rip themselves apart as sometimes can happen with fast twists and light bullets at rifle velocities.
Hi,
I figured there was a reason and that folks liked them, I plan to try one. If I need to replace my existing barrel I'd like to have one like factory as well. I thought I saw some standard twist barrels on the site a few weeks ago, but must have been mistaken.
What happens better with a 180 or 200 grain bullet with 1 in 12 as opposed to 1 in 16? Is it more accurate at 50 yards, or maybe 200 yards? Better velocity with the same charge?

Faster twist barrels in 357 mag like 1/12 or 1/14 just tend to stabilize the longer heavier bullets at 357 velocities a little better than 1/16 or 1/18 twists, this can contribute to better accuracy at a distance. How much and how far can be difficult to quantify, some guns with slower twists will shoot heavy bullets ok and some not as well, the faster twists just seem to greatly increase the odds that a given barrel will shoot well with heavy for caliber bullets in the 200gr range.
