Well the clouds parted and the sun came out so off to the range I went. I took my DW Pistol Rest along to help with the test. I only shot about 15 rounds with Eric's barrel and 20 rounds with the factory barrel and got pretty consistent groups at 15 yards. I used .357 Mag, 158 gr SWC over 6.0 gr Unique, Win SP primer.
Here are some pictures of the results:
This is a shot of the range:
Target using Eric's barrel: The first 5 shots were before I adjusted the rear sight but the group wan't bad.
The target is with the factory barrel:
I shot five at this paper tube at 25 yards free hand and hit it four times with Eric's barrel. Works pretty good.

Excellent. Nice shooting for 15 yards!
Is it common for you to shoot all lead with .357 shells? What is the expected muzzle velocity, and did you compare lead fouling of the two barrels?
Soap Box, Ballot Box, Ammo Box
in that order.

Pine,
Actually nothing is common for me. I started reloading about 16 months ago and continue to experiment with different loads and components. I should really settle down with something I like.
I chose the SWC to get nice round holes and have loads with moderate velocity. I haven't checked for leading yet but will look at the barrels later this week. My Speer book says 1034 FPS with this load. I have a Chronograph but haven't set it up yet. That's another thing to do next time.

That 3rd group of the EWK barrel looks like a 1 1/2" group to me minus the low #5 hole.
Whether barrel heat or loss of shooter concentration, the last shot of the group seems
to "creep off" alot of time for me. I would bet money that after a 200 rnd break-in this
barrel will produce a one ragged hole group at this distance.
Nice job Jagg !

Yeah, even on a rest you tend to pull one once in awhile. I didn't have a lot of time and may have rushed it. I will give it a good test next time.
Pine,
I cleaned the barrels today and there was some leading in both barrels. I think I got it out the bore cleaner.

Good morning
Be sure your cast bullets are large enough diameter to fill the cylinder throats . If the lead bullet is too small it will not seal the powder gas and leading will happen. My goal is always to have bullet diameter at least .001 larger than the cylinder throat diameter. Generally for the smaller calibers up to the .41 .001 is enough oversize. For my .45 colt revolvers I have used .002 oversized bullets with good results. Remember the bullet must act as a piston and seal the pressure behind the bullet.
At the presure - velocity you are shooting a proper diameter bullet should not lead at all.
