I'm new to the 357 Max. but I believe I have read on a previous post conccerning appropriate twist rates that are much slower than EWK's barrels that are all listed as 1-12. Is a 1-12 twist too fast for bullets in the 158 to 180 grain range?
I'm looking at ordering a new 8" for my M40 but want to make sure the twist is appropriate. Any help from the SM guru's will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

My Monson barrel for my 357Max has a 1 in 16" twist. I haven't checked my 10" or my 6", but eyeballing them side by side, they seem the same. The Max is at it's best with 180 to 200gr bullets. You can get over 2000fps with 125's, but will cause premature throat erosion and serious flame cutting. Mine's had a steady diet of 200gr LFN's since 1992 and has minimal flame cutting after many hundreds of rounds. The lighter bullet was the main reason Ruger stopped making the Max, but many are still around and even shooting in competition. The greateds thing about the Max is it can do everything the 357mag can at twice the distance and with heavier bullets.
