I present to you the EWK muzzle brake/comp nut!
Now first off, please note this isn't the finished product, this is just one that I made up this morning/afternoon to test this idea I had. Its steel, and not blued…cause I'm trying to get some BA's and other goodies done before the bluing tanks start!
The concept-with a muzzle brake the holes are positioned at the top of the brake and the gases are directed upwards to counteract the recoil. Now pretty much as you can imagine all you would need on a Dan Wesson is an extra long barrel nut with ports in it to accomplish this. Just one problem-when you tighten the "nut" the ports have to be positioned at the top, not at the sides, or even the bottom…that would make things worse. So each nut would need to be fitted to each individual Dan, I believe there were some comp nuts in the past that were made that used the pinciple of facing material off the end of the comp nut till the ports were in the correct position.
Now the EWK system is a little different. No machining needed, and it works on all of your Dans! (For each size, large and small frame, two different comp nuts of course) To install, you take the barrel nut off, and screw this little baby on. Tighten it up, using the handle on your EWK barrel wrench inserted in one of the ports. If the ports are in the incorrect position, simply loosen the comp nut, rotate the knurled ring a bit and retigthen. Repeat and after a couple trys you should have the ports in the correct position and be ready to roll!
Okay, that the theroy anyway, looking forward to maybe this weekend testing it out! And I need your feedback guys! The biggest thing is the length/number of ports. Right now its at 3 and is 1-1/2 long. Would be very possible to make this shorter/reduce the number of ports. I figured if anything, make it a little longer I can cut it down if need be. Also, I was originally thinking of milling two flats on the comp nut. But the more I looked at it, I liked the round design. But anyway, need to hear YOUR thoughts!
Thanks guys!

Well I love the indexing, which of course has always been the biggest hurdle. I am not so sure about using the holes the gas exits as the preferred place to insert the barrel wrench due to both deformation concerns and possilble fouling preventing the insertion of the tool. It may actually be safer ( not better) to also have our barrel nut slots milled into the face.
I eagerly await a range report. I have no clue has to "best" size and number holes. But they need to be something that can be cleaned. It would be nice if they happen to be say .22 (.17?) caliber or something so common brushes can be used. I REALLY would want to see how they affect .357 max and such, as I understand them to be rather painful to shoot.

Eric, Looks good, different but good. Like the adjustment idea should work well.
Now something else, how about a row of holes on each side say top 1/4 to get away from sight area, blast sent still up though not in sight path? getting camara out now.
I do like the length, any in SS?

Thanks for the input guys!
LB, What was it that I mentioned in the other thread that can help me?!
KPM, That is a good idea about the sight on the comp for your shroud!
Wayne, That's a fascintating idea there, what would be the theroy on the 11 degree crown? No problem to do!
Pinetor, That's an excellent point about the fouling! I remember on the flash enhancer the amount of stuff you dug out of it with the pick!
DWA, That's a fantasic idea having two rows of holes to keep the sight path open, I love that!
I can't wait to try it out either to see if it helps the recoil any or not!

A lot of the target and bench rest shooters put 11 degree crowns on their barrels. Apparently it makes a noticeable improvement in accuracy. This web site gives a brief description:

I keep comming back to look at this ( cause I love it)
EWK: you ever seen how the nut goes on a Dremel? It has two flat sides and the rest is round. A regular little wrench is used to loosen it up ... I think that would look nice
two flat sides, which when index correctly would complement the lines of the shroud on the side ( think VH)
The bottom would remain round ( think bottom of standard shroud)
I like the two row idea ( though its more conventional).. not sure what to do to the top
Lastly: One side needs to say: EWK_ARMS FireStorm ( or something)
PS: I have another idea that I need made... or considered...
My 15-2 can foul up between the cylinder and the crane shaft where the crane spindle is raised. I wonder if either a nylon or even copper/brass tube bushing would help keep powder and crap out of there.
PPS: I cant get the dern ejector rod loose.. I read there is a tool for that.. any idea where I can get one?

I use the chuck off a standard electric drill--just chuck up the rod, grasp the chuck in one hand and the cylinder in the other and twist them apart. I stick 3 or 4 empty cases in the cylinder to support the star.

Well I didnt realize he was taking orders! Gonna have to have one, and possibly two. My currents are to put one in front of a 2"BA on my wifes gun and take back my 4". Should be the same bulkbut she gets a reduction in felt recoil. The other will be for me (duh) Any pistol matches they do have here are "open" so comp or not I would have to shoot against those that can have it.
