My Monson M15 (ser 993xx) was loaned out (never again) and came back with a couple of issues. Looks as if someone was shooting some hot loads and got the brass stuck in the cylinder, then hammered them out. Problem was they obviously didn't have the cylinder open all the way and one of the extractor arms broke off on the blast shield. I surmise this since there are two deep nicks in the blast shield that correspond to the one full length arm and the other broken one.
No comments necessary about loaning out guns to relatives and friends of friends.
I'm not worried about the cosmetics of the gouges in the blast shield, I could probably grind them out and reblue but it's not an issue for me. The broken extractor, however, has a tendency to sometimes not push the brass out but instead to ride up and over, thus leaving an empty shell between the extractor star and the cylinder. And, then, I have to take a small dowel and tap it into the cylinder to drive the brass out, carefully tilting it to clear the extractor star. PITA.
Anyone know where I can buy an extractor ? Rephrase that, anyone know where I can buy an extractor CHEAP ? Do I look for a parts gun, pull what I need and then sell off the rest of it ? Or just ignore it ? Or try taking the broken extractor and building it up with weld material and grind it back down ?
Or, just sell the gun. I have three model 15's, one is an unfluted cylinder model, another was tuned by the Dan Wesson Performance shop and then this one with the broken extractor that is my range box gun. Little sentimental value, not much else to say about the piece.
Appreciate any advice, tips or links to parts

That's a bummer for sure. Finding parts on GB or a parts gun is probably your best bet, unless someone here has one they'd like to part with. I bet that the welding & grinding thing would be much more hassle than it's worth.
We'd definitely like to see some pics of that unfluted cylinder! 🙂

Extractor assembly is listed at CZ/DW at $48.95, but it is also listed as a factory install.
Try our member "hotbluer", he has a parts stash
I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

This is a photo from back when I had a few more model 15's, the unfluted cylinder is the second from the top.
Not a great pic, the unfluted cylinder gun is on the left with the pachmeyer grips.I suppose I ought to take a few better photos and post a thread on just the unfluted cylinder, seems to be of interest

Hey, appreciate all the kind comments and good advice. On the extractor thing, I will keep watching GB, AA and even FleaBay for parts, haven't seen much to date but ...... At $50 for the part plus shipping and labor to install (since I'm sure CZ aint gonna ship it to me and will want to be paid to put it in) I'm not sure I want to put $150 plus into fixing it. Be cheaper to replace the gun and sell this one I would think.
So, probably just keep using it as is, maybe make it a 5 shooter, until I either decide to pass it on or replace it.
As far as the stable mates of this one, no, I didn't buy them new although I do have the original sales receipt and some of the literature on a couple of them.
The unfluted cyilinder is only one of two that I have seen, I also once saw an unfluted cylinder by itself on Gun Broker. That individual claimed there had only been two of them ever produced and he was selling one of them. Another person whom I have more respect for told me he had heard from a Dan Wesson employee that they produced a very, very small number of them, something like half a dozen a year during the Monson years.
Funny story, I actually found the unfluted cylinder M15 in a local gun shop here in Arizona. It had a 12" Vent Rib Heavy barrel on it and another 8" barrel and a 4" barrel with it. I just had to have the 12" barrel, already had a 10" and a 15" but I was short on cash and wound up swapping a Winchester M94 in 30/30; a minty S&W M19 w/2" bbl; and a really crappy looking DW M15 with timing issues; swapped all three for the unfluted barrel but the funny part is that while we were doing the paperwork, the owner went in the back and comes out with a Pistol pac case for it. Actually not a pistol pac case, it's smaller and I think called a Hunters Pac. Anyway, he puts the gun in the case and it isn't until I get it home that I notice the unfluted cylinder. I probably had between $600 and $700 in the trade but I wouldn't let it go for that now !!
I guess I ought to get off my backside and take some better pics of it and maybe do a thread on it.

Sounds like it may be a "Mini Pac" case, then.
I've seen these in black & brown so far. I'm not sure just yet what the story on these is/was, but they seem to have been made to hold the gun, one barrel & maybe an extra grip.
If you decide you'd like to sell yours, I'm all ears.

Yep, that's just like the one I got. Just got it out to look up the SN/Date of purchase information that I thought was in it and found the original warranty card marked:
Dan Wesson
"Howco Pac"
Code # DW11403
Model 15-2V6/22
Non-Fluted Cylinder
S/N 3441XX (where the actual numbers are written in ink)
All the above correspond to my non-fluted cylinder M15 357 mag. I'm not sure why the Model 15-2V6/22 unless the 22 corresponds to either the little brown case or to the non-fluted cylinder or both.
Could be the case was used for special orders such as the non-fluted cylinder, at least know this particular gun and this particular case came together from the mother ship. Think I'll hang onto it for the time being LOL.
