As mentioned in an earlier post, I have experienced the star jumping the case while extracting. I was at the range again last week and it happened one more time. The case came out very easily with a pencil, didn't seem to be stuck. I see on the parts list that one can purchase an extractor but only with a factory install which makes sense. Do the new extractors currently being offered differ from the originals to address this? Or, is it ONLY ME?

The case is a nickel plated WW .38 +P reload. Not sure if it is worn, I will have to compare to a factory I guess but I don't have any at the time. It is interesting that no one else has chimed in on this, It must not be much of an issue. It is a pain in the a__ when it happens because it jams against the star before it fully exits the cylinder. I think that happens more often when it is below thirty outside which also enhances the pain in the a__ effect.

I have had this happen only a few times in 20 plus years of shooting DW's so I never gave it much thought, other than it just happens. Maybe look at how you hold the revolver when you eject the cases. If the muzzel is pointing up, gravity is on your side and may help the problem. This may be way off from what is going on but sometimes the simplest answer works the best. Anyway good luck, and let us know when you find the answer.

It had happens for me more often than that. When i scratched the side plate with the extractor lately after finding this forum, I thought I would check on bluing touch up repairs and see if it was indicitive of the Monson guns. It certainly does help to have the gun verical and eject slowly but I would think that there should not be such a marginal grip on the cartridge rim by the star. The first time it happened was shortly after I bought the gun some 20 years ago.
