I may have an opportunty to acquire a DW 15-2VH which is claimed to be factory engraved and unfired. Comes in original box and has correct paperwork etc. It is not inexpensive but I am seriously considering buying it. Can someone advise me on the factory engraving ? I have not heard of this and also what type of price would everyone think it is worth. I have included a couple of pics you can see some pitting on the RHS of the cylinder and I am concerned about that, any ideas on restoring the cylinder would be great please. BTW the revolver is located a 1000 miles away
I'd appreciate your help.
Thanks
Mike
I have an Engraved 15-2 that is almost identical. It came in a clear plexiglass case with a gold colored name plate. I also have a Dan Wesson catalog that has pictures that support the providence. I am 100% positive that yours is factory, as is mine.
Do not reblue the cylinder. Those tiny little pinpricks are nor serious enough to destroy the originality of the gun. IMHO.
Lastly, buy the gun yesterday. That price is a steal. It is probably worth half again as much. Not many factory engraved Dans exist.

Thanks Old Dog, I thought it looked very factory but it is great to have you authenticate it for me, it is such a shame the cylinder has those minor blemishes but I will go ahead and buy the gun, it is simply too beautiful to not own. The gun comes from a very old collecter who obviously had great taste in revlovers. BTW do you shoot yours ? I don't currently own anything I don't use !! Thanks again for your information and advice, I'll let you know when I confirm that I have a receipt of purchase.
Take Care
Mike
I have many Dans I can shoot. The unfired engraved one I will not shoot. But I don't live in Australia. Things are different there. I live in the Great State of Florida. No limits, no registration, no waiting with a conceal carry permit, no city or county restrictions and RON DESANTIS.

Thank you for the information,it's interesting to see the various levels of engraving and the costs associated with the work. Until I found this gun I had never seen a engraved Dan Wesson for sale. I just had to have it, I'm looking forward to seeing the revolver when it arrives from across the other side of the country. Dan's are not common in Australia, most were used for metal silhoutte because they could handle a steady diet of heavy rounds so usually have seen a deal of work. I also have a 4" 714 which is one of my favourite handguns.
Thanks Again
Mike
