Hi guys,
Its been awhile since I have posted, I just haven’t had as much time as I would like. I have a questions for you. Which barrel length is your favorite AND why? I have a 4” and 6”, I like the 6” better for two reasons. First, I shoot it better, whether the barrel is more accurate or the longer sight radius makes the difference, I don’t know. Second, I just think it looks and feels better. So what are your thoughts? Thanks.

I like them all, but for general carry or knockabout, I like a 4", and for serious range-work or hunting, I like an 8". But I still like them ALL!

P.S. I prefer the vent heavy models across the board.

6" for me. I just obtained 6VHs for my .22 and .44
Once upon a time I did a lot of shooting and playing around. I had barrels/shrouds so I could put 4,6, or 8 on my .22 and .357. I shot the 6" a lot better than the 4"; I only gained about 10% more accuracy by moving from 6" to 8".
I carry the 4 inchers plenty when I don't think I'll be doing much shooting (close range self-defense), but carry the 6 ichers when I want to be more certain of being able to hit some thing (small targets, rabbit, grouse, etc.). Only if I'm purly hunting is the extra accuracy of the 8 worth the extra length.

I'm not a real fan of long barrels, I have .44 Magnum in both 6 VH and 8V, and I much prefer 6 VH (I'd like to try 4 VH sometime).
In .357 Magnum my hands down favorite is 4 VH, but I like to do a lot of combat style shooting (primarily in 9 mm/.40 S&W/.45 ACP). I owned only a 6" for many, many years, once I got a 4" I fell in love with it.
In .22 lr my favorite is 6 VH

I have the 8" on my supermag and it works wel. But would rather the 6" for a bunch of reasons....most of which mentioned in this thread. Carrying a shorter barrelled revolver is nice and the 6" is prob as small as i would go with a supermag due to all the powder to burn.....unless i can find one of those alaskan barrels!
I have snubbie revolvers and with lighter loads are actually quite accurate. only velocity suffers with shorter barrels....but then again there is that sight radius thing that could equate to accuracy, and the forward weight helps with variations of wrist tension. I guess what I'm saying is if you can get all (or enough) of the powder to burn in the barrel and can have good enough form....the shorter barrel would seem reasonable.
Since we are on the topic of barrels......anyone out there have an extra 6" for 445, stainless. I'd be interested in buying it, or a trade of my 8" with vented shroud.
oh, i think i did it now, should this have been said in another topic? or WTT?

I think Dan Wesson revolvers were made (intented) for long range handgun shooters.
So my vote is for 8" or 10". Most other members at my gun club have never seen a
Dan Wesson revolver. And cannot believe the 100yd. open sight groups I shoot. Now
with my "older" eyes, they are not what they used to be! Targets get a bit fuzzy now!

If that front sight is getting fuzzier every day, try this:

Merit Optical Device really helps picking up that front sight. I was pretty surprised at how well this works.
