After a long hassle because of the post office loosing my payment for a .22, I got the gun earlier this week and was able to shoot it today. After getting the sights adjusted it shot great with the 4″ VH shroud it really balances nicely. It is going to make a great trail gun and general plinker. I only bought the 4″ barrel and shroud and the 8″ barrel (still looking for a shroud). If anyone is interested in the 6″ or 2.5″ barrels in the photo I can give you the sellers email.

Mind if I ask what "shot great" means? I have the same set up and am trying to develop my skills a bit more to get the group size down a bit...not sure how small is "great". Some one of much greater skill than I stated 1" at 50 ft. Mine (with me shooting) isn't even close. What rounds are you using?
I'm getting better...I'd like a 6" shroud for the .22 and actually read your post as 6" barrel avail. before I jumped up and down.

Leonard- If I am the guy of "much greater skill"-NOT SO! If it was me, what that means is:
I shoot .22 lr on my home range at least twice weekly, rotated between my 715, HS Victor, and Buckmark TacSol/Fastfire, all very accurate pistols. I regularly always 500+ weekly of .22 lr, and only at 50 ft
I have tried out well over a dozen varieties of .22 lr in each one, and selected what seems to work best for each
When I have a great session with my 715, I CAN shoot 1" groups, rarely better, and oftentimes not so good. I am regularly the only shooter on line, I don't shoot a timed course of fire, and I step away when it doesn't feel right. I could not shoot it this well in competition.
.22 lr is so dependent on the ammo matching the gun and the shooter, it's hard to figure out sometimes. B/C gap is also a bigger variable than I ever thought possible, as is the grip I install (in my case, a Pachmayr gripper).
What all this means is that when I use the right ammo, set up my 715 exactly right, feel just right, have no distractions, and God's on me, I can do 1" groups. Trust me, not every day, but often enough to be pretty cool when it happens.
I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

Steve, in my book you would rate as a great shot. Without getting too long winded…a person needs a certain amount of natural ability (sight, hand-eye cordination, etc.), practice, and a good firearm system to shoot well. I've always been a bit suspect of the “firearm system” of my DW22, maybe it's just me or I expect too much of that system. In this case the firearm is about the same as the OP. If his system can shoot 1/3 or 1/4 the groups I can get with mine, I'll suspect my system even more. On the other hand if his groups are about the same, maybe I'm expecting too much.
I haven't shot handguns much for some time, but it still bothers me that I can take a S&W 63 and shoot groups as tight as I can with a DW22-4VH. At present I'm trying to focus my range time on the DW22, but the other toys keep calling my name too. I will continue with the practice, hope to improve on the ability, and keep looking at the system. I'll try some of the variables you have suggested to see if any or all of them help after I get some more trigger time in. I'll also continue to ask what performance others are getting out of their firearms, esp. if their system is close to what I've got.
I should also note that I'm not looking for a situation where the gun is clamped down and shot under some extream method…just a two handed, supported hold.
Thanks for you input.

Leonard-you may want to experiment with different types of ammo. Most .22s (not just DWs) prefer one type over another. I wasn't trying for groups and don't really see well enough anymore to shoot a real tight group (have 53 year old eyes and if I don't wear glasses I can see the target clearly but the sights are a little fuzzy and if I wear glasses I can see the sights great but the target is a blur) but I would guess that with the VH4 barrel/shroud it would group about 1" at the 15 yard range I was shooting at. I was using some CCI bulk ammo, gun seemed to like it. I am not looking to drive tacks with it.
