I took my 715VH to the range today.  Following the pistol, shotgun, and rifle qualifications, I shot my Dan for the 1st time in 20 years!  I even shot the equally old .38+P+ and .357mag rounds that I had left over. I have forgotten how smooth the trigger was (double action).  This was echoed by two of our firearms instructors who have never shot a Dan before.

On a side note, not sure if the flash hider made any difference or not as it was sunny today.  None the less, it had a cool factor. cool

A couple of things I noticed was that the rounds pulled to the left, but a simple adjustment fixed that.  The second thing was that some of the empty casings got partially stuck in the cylinder chambers.  Any thoughts on that?

If you shot a lot of 38's 20 years ago, you might want to run a brush through the chambers.  Small carbon ring will make them hard to eject--especially 357's.

Sounds like you were able to get reacquainted with an old friend.range-time Definitely scrub out your cylinder chambers, that's a very common reason for stuck cases.

Easy way to do that is chuck the brush into a cordless drill, get it sloppy with bore cleaner, and go to town!

I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

Folks here really do have some of the greatest ideas!  Thanks!  We used to have a firearms instructor who loves to clean officers' guns after we qualify.  We really missed him.

HA! I have even been known to use a SS "tornado" in the cylinder (but not in my barrels). This works well as the tornado is bigger and fills all the way out to the cylinder walls, while my brushes are worn and dont make contact good.

Lastly, I generally actually just remove the whole crane and cylinder before doing any of the above. I dont want to chance hitting the frame with a spinning brush! Another trick is to put a little 0000 steel wool on the old brush to fill it out and really polish the cylinder.

yeah I spend way too much time with the Dans.

Soap Box, Ballot Box, Ammo Box

in that order.

As I recall, the .38 brush was not really doing the job, I used a .40 to really clean it out.

I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

yep, forget the .38 or .357 brush, go straight to the .40.

To the paranoid people who check behind shower curtains for murderers:

if you find one...what's your plan?
