Hi to all--first post and am new to forum. I got a .357 Mag DW revolver and had a question regarding the firing pin--gun works but am having an occasional shallow primer strike with a no fire result. Will be doing the usual drill--ie shooting some factory loads, changing primers, etc. BTW was using PMC primers--are they particularly hard?
When I open the cylinder and pull the trigger while slowly lowering the hammer the firing pin pops out and then drops back into it's recess when I re-cock. However, when I acually pull the trigger and let the hammer fall full force the pin pops out and does not retract--I have to use a bit of force to get it to go back into the recess and there is an audible, small click as it goes back in. I have never seen this before on the few revolvers I have had in the past and am wondering if this is a problem or a DW design feature? Could this be the cause of the 1 in 20 light pin strikes? Outside of this the gun works fine and is pleasingly accurate
I checked the FAQ and wanted to double check--the factory ( and possibly Gun Parts Corp) is it as far as parts go--or the occasional bbl./shround/grip etc on Ebay, Gun Broker, etc.?
Should any competent plistolsmith be able to work on these guns and/or do any of you have a reccommendation regarding a smith who specializes in them?
thanks in advance

Welcome to DWF. It's pretty rapidly becoming my stock reply to all DW function problems for you to clean it thoroughly (inside the sideplate), replace the springs, and lubricate properly. More info here:

Pay particular attention to the photo of firing pin removal, very possible your problem is a weak or broken spring, and/or a lot of accumulated crud in the firing pin cavity.
DW revolvers are very easy to troubleshoot, clean and tune up. The Dan Wesson Small Parts Kit from EWK Arms will have everything you need, and is a great value.
I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.
