Hello Guys,

Got DW 357 ctg on Sunday. Think it's a 15-2.

Came with 4 inch barrel and shroud in Nice condition with barrel wrench gauge tool and a few other Allen wrenches and things and the manual, original grips and Hogue grips on it.

I want to get more barrels and shrouds for this revolver probably a 2.5 inch and 6 inch to start.

Mine has a vented rib. What difference does a vented ribs make in Practical terms?

Where do I get the barrels and shrouds and which type would you recommend?

I want one short light one for carry and a 6 inch for possible hunting.

I love the looks of some of the ones with cutouts but basic ones would be fine and I've also seen ones with full lugs that look pretty sick, but don't know if that extra weight helps.

Please make any practical suggestions I'm very new to changing barrels.

Remember, snug is enough when tightening the barrel nut and sideplate screws. Set your gap at  .006 on the proudest cylinder. That means use the shim on all of the chambers in case one has a smaller gap. Slide it in gently. Do not push the cylinder to the rear. Open the cylinder and hold the barrel from turning with a finger on it while you tighten the nut. Read the forum posts  especially the "Average Joe Tuneup " in gunsmithing.

When ejecting shells work the latch with your left hand thumb and push against the cylinder with your next two fingers pushing the cylinder open. That prevents the cylinder from trying to close while you eject cases. If it closes while the extractor is extended the star will scratch the sideplate. And take the barrel tool with you when you go shooting. Lastly  don't pound on the extractor if cases are stuck. I take a pencel and push them out while preventing the cylinder from banging against the little nub called a cylinder stop on the sideplate. They can break off. A design flaw that was corrected on blue guns in 1986.

Ebay is the best place to find Barrel Assemblies. Watch for a while to learn values so you don't overpay. The better the condition the more they are worth. Seek a shroud that matches the age of the gun if you have a gun made in Monson look for a 2 line roll mark. The vent is cosmetic unless you want to mount a scope. VH is nice for the shorter barrels IMHO because of the added weight. Probably best to get them matching though. I have bunches of extra but I have not been a seller much yet. Most folks that don't want to use ebay are trying to get them cheaper than market value. It is annoying. Have fun

If you're not a collector but a shooter (like me) you can get new barrel assemblies directly from DW. I've bought 3 of the stainless assemblies for my 715 and 744 (stainless guns) and the finish matches pretty damn well.

2.5" and 6" barrels in stock:

Actually they're all in stock but the ones that say "out of stock" you'll have to call/email Shawn at DW to order. Shawn@cz-usa.com

Thanks for the Welcome and info.

Mine is blued Monson, MA. 15-2 I'm pretty sure.

Yes I'm a shooter.

While I appreciate and respect Dan Wesson's, this won't be a safe queen, bought for $400 in good shape with tools and manual. So this will be a sometimes carry and Trail Gun and just for Hoots hunting revolver since I also have 454 Casull and 44 Magnums as well as 6 and 5 inch Smith and Wesson 357s.

SteelyDan cuz I'm a Steely Dan fan and Dan Wesson fan of course so easy to remember, LOL! Although I'm more partial to Kid Charlemagne.

What should I expect to pay within reason for 2 and 1/2 in + 6 in barrel for this Dan Wesson?

And there's nothing wrong with looking for below-market prices so if anyone has anything in excess I'd be happy to relieve you for cash

Also how does the vent rib affected for hunting someone mentioned that. So while I do like the looks of the vent rib that is on the 4in I got on the gun,  for my 6 inch barrel which would be used for hunting would I not want the vent rib? Why?

The vented rib shroud allows for a clamp-on scope mount, so you don't have to drill & tap your own mounting holes. Vented also helps with cooling and weighs less.
