I have a 744vh ss Dan, and though it'd be nice to mount a scope on the 6" barrel. I didn't care for it much, so I mounted it on my 8" barrel, which works very well for me. The problem is, I have a mess left on the top of the 6" vh shroud where the scope was mounted. Any suggestion on "restoring" it to original finish, as I'm not sure how the gray finish was done. Or do I just take it down to stainless and go from there..

Cheers,

Roger

I was told by another member to shot-blast the rib with a 120 grit aluminum oxide media.  Make sure to tape off the sides with aluminum duct tape.

I have not yet tried this for myself.

Yup – that's how you get the matte finish back.  Hoss has a pretty sharp memory.  If you don't have a shot blaster, most full-service gunsmiths have one and it should only cost you $15 to have the top rib done.  If you can't  find anyone locally and you really want it done,  you can send it over to me and I'll do it for you but then you're adding another $6 shipping each way.

Thanks Hoss. laugh

Guess I'll need to Google "shot-blast", as I've never done that before. Sounds like it might need some specialized equipment, hopefully not.

Cheers,

Roger

basically just a sandblaster--the finish depends on the type of media/grit you use.
