The conversion to the interchangeable system was done by the factory. A guy by the name of Norb who worked there at the time ( Bob Serva era) was the person who did it. He told me he may not be able to remove the barrel because some were installed with epoxy on the threads. I told him to give it a try and it turned out fine. They installed the indexing pin also. I use the gun for ccw in a Simply Rugged hoster.

I wonder if they sold the unfinshed fixed BA's to Mitchell back in the day!

Hi guys, first post on here embarassed

Just picked this up over the weekend, can't wait to shoot it. It's a 715-FB, with a 3" barrel, in 357 Magnum. Locks up nice and tight, trigger is smooth and crisp. First revolver and first Dan Wesson for me.

Only plans for it are a different set of grips, not a fan of the Hogues. Love everything else about it though.

EDIT: Forgot to add, it's a Palmer Mass gun.

Lookee what I picked up yesterday wow. I didn't even know it was a 5 inch VH fixed barrel, compensated 715.  It was listed as a 6-1/2 inch DW comp'ed barrel on the auction site, but I thought the BA was interchangeable. The slant at the front of the shroud gives it away that it is a fixed barrel (and also that the sight is after the slots after some research), but I didn't think of that when i was bidding. Imagine my surprise when I took off the comp nut and there was no inside nut lol2. I figured I had some real hard 'smithing to do mad. Luckily the end label of the box stated: DW Fixed Barrel 715 5 inch SS FBC.

I was going to flip it, but I think I may keep this one.  I feel a Calendar Photo shoot coming up cool. Any idea how many of these were made? I didn't realize they made fixed AND comped barrels one in the same...

Man that is cool! That is the first FB compensated pistol I have seen. And you got the original box too? They couldnt have made many like that. That is definitely calendar material!

If you decide to flip it you might want to post it on the DWF and give us a heads up please.

Those are some really nice looking fixed barrel DWs. Anyone that wants to make theirs a fixed barrel just Loctite the treads on your interchangable DW. smile

We have seen what Loctite will do to one.

laughing, That's a good one...

If I put the FBC up for sale (didn't know that DW acronym before), I will definitely let the Board know it is going up for sale...  Tough call right now.

Congrats on that cool score!!occasion Yours is the 3rd one I've seen so far in either the blued or stainless (15-2 / 715-2) flavor. So there are others out there, but not very many. And as usual, no real idea on how many were made.

A couple years ago on another forum, a guy was selling this pair, a 15-2 FBC & a 744. I lost my notes on these two, but if I recall correctly, the 744 was not a FB gun. Don't remember for sure, though.embarassed

Just wanted to post a new pic of my 3" 715-FB. Got a new grip for it and I'm loving it laugh Also got a little range time with the new girl, and I am super happy with the gun. Money well spent.

Enjoy wink

Thanks allot for the kind words. She shoots just as good as she looks too hehe. I also have a set of "Shootist" grips on order from L.B. Custom too, so new pics will have to be taken with the grips and the holster I have on order as well. I posted the above pit on the 2013 calender thread just for haha's too, figured why not.
