I recently went back up to PA to visit some relatives and came across a 44 in a local gun shop. It's blued, has a 6-inch heavy barrel and the tool for the barrel. No case, Monson build. The guy wanted $375 for it if I remember correctly. It looked nice but I noticed that the cylinder had a little bit of slack in it, more than I'm used to with my model 15 or model 14.
Is this typical or a sign that it has had some hot loads run through it. It had some wear on the frame inside the cylinder hole where the back of the casings would press against it when you fired it but I didn't see any groove on the top strap inside the cylinder opening (where the cylinder and the barrel meet).
I was debating whether or not I should get into another caliber (plus if it would be prudent with the FFL shipping fees and such. I live in FL). It looked nice but I didn't know the going prices for blued DW 44s. I passed on it and bought a Henry 22, a gun that both me, and my 10 year old son can shoot. That's more important right now. Anyone in PA looking for a DW 44? I can forward the info. He seems like a nice guy (my bro-in-law has bought several guns from him). Sorry, no pix.

the slack was rotational. Let me say that it wasn't terrible, but just more than I was used to. Gun looked nice with little, if any blueing wear. Don't know, I might be going back up there soon. Hmmm?
I knew that coming here to get talked out of buying a DW is like having a Jenny Craig meeting at an all you can eat buffet!

A .44 mag Dan Wesson for $375 huh? In central Pa? Maybe I should go check it out for you myself Seriously, for that price I would have taken it home. I actually have high bid on one on GB right now, but if I don't get it I wouldnt mind knowing where you saw that one if you didnt mind.
