Hit my favorite DW drop in spot today, and there it was-715 8VH wearing a Pachy Presentation grip. The tag said it came with " 4 inch barrel, tool, rings, grip". The rings made sense, the 8VH has a few marks from rings mounted to the vent rib. Original plastic DW barrel tool, small grip, and two 1" rings.
It's on layaway, this gives me the 4th VH barrel to build my own Pack (just need a case now) AND
I have a nice 715 4V for a project I've wanted to try for a while, I'm going to try polishing this SS up bright and shiny, I'm easily amused by shiny objects.
Almost forgot... $350
I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

Here's a couple of cellphone pics I snapped when I found it
You can see a couple of the marks on the vent rib from the rings direct mounted.
Seem like it might be a fairly low serial #, but who knows?
Lockup and timing very good, DA/SA trigger pull just what you expect from a good Monson DW. Some surface crud and corrosion, buy it's all going to be high polished anyhow.

It's going to be an experiment to determine what works well. We had some discussion here:
https://www.danwessonforum.com/?page_id=3/reloading/polishing-stainless-1
I'm planning to try the hand polish, possibly assisted in some areas by some soft polishing tips on a Dremel for hard to reach places. I want to see what I can do with a high luster polish and then wax. I also have an extra blue cylinder in great condition, I'd like to pop it in just for 's and see what it looks like

So I got this out of Lay-a-Way prison today, here's what I got for $350
The cool part is that I got a new Project Gun, a 715 V4 that is going to get the SHOOT tune-up, and a mirror polish SS cleanup, AND I got the 8VH barrel to almost complete a Build a Pack
Still need a Case, and the 2 1/2″ is not exactly right, but it's getting there

Great catch Steve. That set up qualifies for IMHO. The pac is close enough for me even if the 2.5 is a V style. It still looks Awesome! I am eager to see how the polish comes out as I may try it on my 715, just haven't decided yet.
Wisdom is merely the realization of how little one knows, therefore I am wise.

I'm glad to be the Guinea Pig on the polishing, I've been watching for an inexpensive 714/715 to try it out on. Won't happen overnight, but it will happen.

I saw a topic on ar15.com several months ago by a guy that got gorgeous results with Mothers Mag Wheel Polish, done entirely by hand, then waxed it. I also did some research on line, and another Member here provided some info. I won't get as shiny as the Bright Nickel, but I want stainless with some real pop to it. I will report back with results and method, don't know how soon.

Here's where I'm going, trying this method:
Sorry for the delay in answering your question...... and thanks for the kind words guys. The Mothers Mag Polish is a very, very fine abrasive, and when you rub over an area the rag comes up black from the minute amount of removed stainless. I would just go over and over an area until I liked the way it looked..... and move on to another area, always rotating the rag around to clean cloth. Once it looked uniform I usually started all over again until it looks like it does now. I probably only have 2-3 hours actual time invested in each of them, usually cleaning them up in half hour increments watching TV. They stay real shiny and doesn't really need much upkeep at this point. I do put a coat of gun wax over them though. It helps keep down on the fingerprints that show up so well now it's so shiny. It really makes it easier to clean after shooting them too. Powder residue comes of much easier after the polish and wax job, and I see no evidence of cleaning solvents affecting the finish at all. The good part about them being stainless is if they get minor scratches from handling them on it, all you have to do is buff them out real well with more Mothers, give it another wax job and you're back to looking good again. I use either Flitz Gun Wax or Renaissance Wax on all my guns actually even the blued ones with great results. They actually look much better in person than the pics show, as it's really hard to get a good shot of them due to reflections and glare.

That thing totally looks like nickel from here, fantastic! I'm sorta tempted to try that on my 715 FB gun, but I should probably wait to have a more "standard" gun as the Guinea Pig. Not saying that the FB is super rare or desireable, but it is less common than a more standard 715...or even a 744.
