I recently acquired a DW Revolver #351791, .357, 2 1/2" barrel.  Took it to the range twice and it shoots 3' high at 25 yards.  It has an adjustable rear sight and I've adjusted it all the way to lower the bullet path.  The local gunsmith said it looks like it has the wrong front sight.  I've looked at various photos of pistols and barrels and the sight on this pistol is different.  First, it is much shorter than the sights that I see on others, it is solid black with no insert, and it is pinned from the side.  I guess there's a good possibility that it is the wrong barrel.

I'll be glad to send photos of the side view, if that will be helpful and I can figure out how to do it.  Any thoughts would be appreciated.  I'm new to the forum.

Thanks.

Well Speedhorses, the mavens appear to be busy so I will try to help. Based on your description I think you must have a model 14-2 barrel. The early 15-2 's had no colored insert and were pinned. They were the same height as the later removable sights. They had no allen screw on the muzzle end. The 14-2 is a fixed sight and the shroud has no top rib. If you have a 14-2 with a 15-2 shroud you can get a replacement sight from EWK but if you have a 15-2 with a 14-2  shroud you cannot change the front sight. Aside from buying a new shroud you my find a brand of ammo that works. Try an assortment; 38spec., 38spec +p, , and different weights from 110 to 180 if you can find it. If you load your own you may find one that works. By the way, 3" at 25 yards is pretty darn good in my world.  Ole Dog

First welcome to the DWF. Next I believe Ole Dog covered most of the info. But yes a picture will be definitive. There may be a few options, but first lets nail down exactly what you do have.

Thanks to you both.  I tried several loads, some were hand loads and others off the shelf.   How do I add a photo or photos to the forum?  I agree that the best thing to do is see what I have.  Thanks again.  Speedhorses

I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

Yep, this is true. wink Nice work Ole Dog, sounds like the classic "15-2 frame wearing a 14-2 BA".smile

While I don't necessarily consider myself a "maven", I will weigh in here.laugh

Yes, the early 15-2's were not colored & were pinned (for approximately the first year)...this changed soon afterward, and yes, they were the same height as the later colored (removable) sights. The 14-2's were not colored and were pinned...no matter which year...clear to the end.

It sounds as though Speedhorses has a 15-2 frame with a 14-2 BA (shroud). That would explain the lower front sight. Speed, if you look at the 6" 14-2 shroud pictured here;

https://www.danwessonforum.com/archive/shroud-types/

You will notice the shroud difference between the 14-2 & 15-2 models.

Hope this helps. Check your PM's for additional photo help.smile

Well Ole Dog nailed it. You have a model 15-2 revolver with a 14-2 shroud. So options are, swap for a 15-2 shroud, the simplest but probably the most costly. I believe you can just put a 15-2 sight on your shroud if you have basic mechanical ability. Drive out the drift pin, mark and drill a new sight, then install. You may want to try one of EWK's fiber optic sights if that suites your needs. Good luck

Speed, that is a great photo of your gun. Looks to be in fine shape. As far as me nailing it, even a broken clock is right twice a day. Options; try to trade your barrel for a 15-2 barrel, or  buy one on ebay and sell yours, or  buy a 14-2 with a 4" or 6" barrel and a 15-2 barrel and have two guns. That's what someone with DWAS calls "a start"

Thanks guys.  One last question.  Did my pistol come with a front sight with removable, colored inserts or with a solid black sight?  I assume both are the same height but the removable, colored ones are newer or later versions...........right?  Like to keep it stock or original as possible.  Thanks for all the good info.

That would be yup, right (black on or around S# 50,000 and colored a short number later), and any Monson shroud after about 1976.

One final thanks.  I'm on a mission to find a shroud or complete barrel assembly.  Will sell or trade the one I have.
