I have a Model 14 with a 2" barrel and a Model 15  .357 Magnum.  I have two 6″ barrels for the Model 15 which of course has the adjustable rear sight.  I want to put one of them on the Model 14 fixed-sight.  I understand that with the Model 15 front sight on the Model 14 that it will shot very low at 25 yards.

My question is this:

Can the sight from my Model 14 barrel be placed on the Model 15 barrel??

Thanks……

Do either of your guns have interchangeable front sights? In other words, do they have a little set screw sunk into a hole just above the barrel, as in this pic?

If not, then they are the earlier pinned style, as this Porkchop example shows.

On the pinned style, the front sight is held in with a roll pin, that you can remove with a hammer & small punch. If you have one of each style, then they will not interchange...unless you get really creative.

Ok.  What if I use the shorter sight on the 2" barrel of the Model 14 as a gauge...machine the Model 15 sight to that height?  Would that work?  And, remember...this is on a 6" barrel.

Thanks.....

How bout just swap shrouds and see what happens. Then you can file the site if needed. Or I believe different height sights are available as well as a sight blank to make your own. I even remember about 20 years ago making a front site from scratch with nothing but a hack saw and a file. Good luck and let us know how it turns out.

I would swap shrouds...but, the Model 14 is a 2" shroud and the Model 15 is a  6" shroud.

Maybe I am confused about the problem. I guess I should have asked have you tried the 6 inch barrel and shroud on the M14 to see if it shoots POA. They should interchange unless one of your guns a pork chop style like the 2 inch in Chargers pic? Some pics would help if you are able, or someone else may understand what you mean. I tend to be kind of dense at times. Good luck.

The 6" Model 15 barrel and shroud fit the Model 14 frame just fine.  But, the sight on the Model 15 shourd sight is nearly twice the height of the Model 14 sight.  And, the POI is about 18" below the POA at 25 yards.

I may have a low sight for one of those 6" barrels.  Let me dig through my box O stuff.

Here is a millet sight that you could file to POA. You could file a standard DW sight but the plastic insert would probably fall out. Good luck.

DW/CZ Parts List

https://danwessonforum.com/dwf-content/documents/2009_pricelist.pdf

has listings for a variety of different Patridge front blades, different heights and widths

I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

Here's an opportunity for you to go shoot some moreLaugh.  Go shoot a couple cylinders full and find out EXACTLY how many inches you are off at 25 yards.  The plug your numbers into this formula.

Sight change = Sight Radius X_ Impact distance

Target distance

Sight radius: Distance between front and rear sight

Impact distance: Measurement from point of aim to bullet impact

Target distance: Measurement from muzzle to target

Sight change: Amount of correction needed

Then you will have a figure for your front sight height and we can go from there.

Not to redirect the topic of this post, but, I have a 722 PP that has SS front inserts.. I was just wondering if anyone else has any in stainless.  Has anyone tried to reproduce the originals in carbon or stainless ?? There is a local shop with a waterjet to start working on it this week for me.. I"ll keep you posted.Cool

Any update on your front sight

Any luck with the sight swap project?  I was just thinking about a "blank filler" for one of my stainless barrels I want to scope.  No point in wasting a front sight on a scoped barrel.  But, it reminded me of your sight question.

I have the sight done. One style ,same shape as the serrated sight, but without the cutout for color location and no serrated ramp. The other  identicle as the colored serrated ramp sight.. Now I need some help to determine what to use to fill in the gap where the color goes.. Anyone with plastic's  knowledge ???? I can produce them in SS or carbon..Also I have found that there are at least 2 different heights of the serrated ramp sights such as the 4 or 5 heights of the patridgee fronts blades.. Any input on filling the gap where the plastic color insert goes would be welcome..Cool

Brownell's or one of the other supply places has some colored epoxy that's designed to be used in front sights, I don't know if black is one of the color options.
