I recently changed the barrel on my 15 from an 8" to a 2.5" and now the gun is shooting very high. I am out of adjustment on the rear site, and it was suggested to me to swap the front blades on my 8" barrel and my 2.5" barrel to see if that helps.

I don't have an OEM tool, and I can't figure out what size wrench I need to get the front set screw out to remove the blade. Anyone know?

Also, has anyone else had this experience? FWIW the front site on my 8" barrel has a small red insert and the site on the 2.5" has a larger white insert.

Thanks in advance!

Mike

Hey Crazy Mikie,

Welcome to the forum!

Unfortunately I can't tell you the exact size but I know it's smaller than a 5/64 since that's the smallest in a set I have and it doesn't fit.  Looks like you would need to go down a one or two sizes from that.

I'm sure one of the other guys will give better advice on the sights than I can...

Welcome

Hey Crazy Mike:

The size appears to be .050.  In my set that is 1 size smaller than 1/8 inch.

I hope this helps.

BTW Welcome.

Thanks!

I tried a 2mm wrench and that didn't work and the 2.5mm was too big. I'll dig up an SAE set tonight.

Mike -

You say that the red insert is smaller, if by that you mean shorter, then the switch probably won't solve your problem. If you want to shoot lower, the taller the front sight, the lower you can aim with the front sight staying in the sight pattern. I would mic the sight once it's off and get a parts list from DW and order a patridge in the tallest profile offered.

Which tool do you have for the barrel?  The old plastic tools had all the allens to do the entire gun.  Welcome to the forum and good luck.

Zoommb is correct -the front sight set screw uses a .050 hex which is the next size down from 1/16.

It'll be the smallest size on a good full range SAE set.
