I'd like to see some people's preferences for ammo. I'm new so I don't know where to start. How about where do you buy, and what do you buy?

For target shooting, if shooting 15-2 or something 357mag, I run 38sp target loads, FMJ (full metal jacket) I can find these at walmart in 100 round packs. I might throw down on some 38+p just to have a bit more bang!   M44, may shoot a few mags then run some 44sp, be careful of the lead bullets in these if you run ported barrels!  Walmat still will carry most ammo I need.  22's still are hard to find!

When I bought ammunition, it was

1) Locally reloaded range ammo sold by the indoor range I was shooting at

2) Occasionally MagTech, imported from Brazil

3) Winchester White box, normally bought at Walmart

Always in .357 Mag, I have never bought any .38 Special

Now it's all reloaded at home, the only centerfire ammo I buy now is .380

I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

For target shooting I usually load 158 grain semi wadcutters over either Win231 or H. Universal.

For Self Defense it is really hard to beat factory Gold Dots.  I would use the 135 grain Short barrel loads in a 2" barrel and the 158's in a service length barrel.

For carry in the woods where I would be more concerned about small bears or cougars I carry 180 grain XTPs.  If I'm really worried about critters I carry the .44 Magnum instead.
