I know it's a dumb thing to start a thread about, but I'm excited! Until tonight, my .357 Supermag has never been introduced to ammo...well, since the factory, I suppose. I hope to be able to get my butt to the range this weekend & see what 'ol Barney thinks about this new ammo. LOL!
I e-mailed Reed's on the 11th to ask how long the wait was going to be. He said that he had a batch ready to go & had room for two boxes & that I'd better hurry up. He didn't have to tell me twice!
I ordered a box of 180g Hornady XTP's & a box of 180g Hawk SP's.

See, they fit great! LOL!

One more, then I'll stop.

Nope, there were no flashes at midnight, everything remained calm & quiet. But I did throw open the back door & do a 6-round rapid fire into the woodpile this morning at 6 am, before the sun came up. Had to wake the neighbors up properly!
J/K, but that would sure be fun to do. "Nuthin' gets the blood flowin' like GUNFIRE in the mornin'!" LOL!

LOL Charger.
Will you make it until Saturday before shooting or will you exhaust your supply before it gets dark tonite? $10 says you are ammo free before dark.
That is a fine shooting iron and I know you will enjoy it. That reminds me, mine needs some love this weekend too.

You're going to have fun with that. First times are always the best time with a new gun. Tomorrow, I take my 740-V8S to the range for the first silhouette practice day of the year. Also might throw in it's little brother, the 6" nickel version just for some fun.

Yeah, my brain is definitely on shooting today. So far I've been pretty much worthless here at work. LOL
It's definitely tempting to do it tonight, but I've got another commitment after work. The weather guessers are saying there's a storm blowing in this weekend, I hope it takes it easy on me & isn't super windy on the hill tomorrow.

I thought I'd just bump this thread with my 'range report', instead of starting a new one.
Well as I feared, it was windy by the time I was able to get my butt out there. I took a few targets, my target stand, a half dozen milk bottles & some fruit juice bottles...the botles were filled with water, for some extra fun.
I set the bottles in a spot, so the wind was at my back. The target stand however, kept blowing over, so I had to set it up in a spot that made me shoot cross-wind at the targets. The wind was blowing at least 25 mph, with gusts around the 40 mph area, I'd estimate. The sort of wind that as soon as you take your shooting earmuffs off, your hat blows away. DOH!
The SuperMag shoots GREAT! Very smooth action & it actually has less recoil than I expected. I think the overall weight of the gun helps a bunch, in that regard. I messed around with the rear sight a bit, but the wind made it hard to tell if I was getting anywhere.
I set my targets at around 25-28 yards. I made some really pitiful shots in a regular standing shooting stance, so decided to brace myself against a pole to help a little. The wind still moved my hands a bit, but at least I got 'em all on paper this time.

The 6th shot is in the tape, on the lower left. What...that's on the paper, right? LOL! I know, that's some pretty crappy shooting right there. Next time I'm picking a calm day & see if I can do any better.
I took the SuperMag, the Model 15 & the Super Blackhawk. As expected, the SBH beat me up most of all & my arm is still pretty tired. This time, I took a box of 38 Specials to shoot in the model 15, along with some 357 Mags. It always amazes me how much less recoil there is with 38 Specials.
Oh & as I was cleaning up the trio, I noticed that the powder rings cleaned right off the SuperMag's cylinder! That part looks as good as new still. The SBH didn't fare that well the first time I took it out, it's cylinder definitely looked used after one time at the range.
I guess that's just another good testament to the quality of DW's bluing.

Thanks for the report Charger - we've all been waiting for it you know! I'm guessing from the report that the SuperMag was everything you were hoping for. Did you blow up some o' those bottles with it?
Sounds like a tough day for dialing in though (& on the tape definately counts) - but a bad day at the range is better than…well, you know the rest!!
I really like .38 Spcls. in my 15's - feels like shooting a .22 after those .357 mags…

Charger, That is dedication or our warped sense of not knowing when to stay home and when to go shooting, you pick. Great to hear about the new toy and its kind attention to its shooter. I very much enjoy the 357SM as well. It makes alot of noise, does a great job at the business end of the barrel and does not beat you up doing it. What more could you want? May the sun shineth and the wind not bloweth on your next outing.

I agree completely, it's a world of difference.
Yep, the SuperMag is everything I hoped it would be & I am sure that when I can get the sights dialed in, it will be just the beginning of a beautiful friendship. My favorite thing about it is that it's unique, both in looks & mannerisms. It's not just a 357, but a 357 on steroids.
I am grateful that I was able to buy such a cool gun.
With the bottles, I alternated one cylinder full between the hollow points & the jacketed rounds, just to see the difference. As was expected, the hollow points certainly do a lot more explosive damage to a jug of water than the jacketed bullets do, with a good water spray as the jug flies through the air. One of 'em I hit low & it sent the bottle flying about 15 feet in the air almost straight up...and I was able to hit it again before it landed. FUN!

Charger,
You got me thinking about the last time I had the old model 40 to the range and had to break it out for some range time today too. Unfortunatelly I only had 18-rounds loaded so the stay was short, but it was fun. My son and I split the rounds and enjoyed 'em all. Thanks for the thread.
