Hi, new to the forum. Have a question. Has any one ever had an issue with the grip screw being run in to far and having a miss fire or trigger lock?

First of all Welcome to the DWF Sign.  Please stop in the new members section and tell us a little about yourself.

Yep, Happens to all of at one time or another.  There are two grip screw lengths-- depending on how deep your grip is drilled depends on how long the screw is.  Some grips require a washer under the head of the screw.

If the screw is too long it will cause problems with the hammer coming back.

I put a the black rubber match grip on it. The plastic piece inside is spreading and the grip won't stay tight. So I ran the screw in further and had problems at the range today. Thanks for the info it saved me a trip to the gunsmith. Is that plastic piece replaceable or fixable?

sounds like it needs replaced (the whole grip).  The grip screw liner is molded in and just plastic.  Get a new grip and just barely snug up the screw--it doesn't have to be real tight.

I bought my DW back in 1978 or 79. I'm a little embarrassed to say that i don't know what model it is. It looks just like gun in the right hand case of Shootist357's picture. Same shape shroud (6''). Same everything. How can I find out what I have.

Hazing the new guy…….yup  I deserved that one. Is the model determined by the year it was made, style or caliber? Can you tell just by looking at it, is there a date on the barrel wrapper. If so where would it be?Image Enlarger

Well, what ya got ther is your standard issue model 15-2 in 357 magnum 🙂  This is determined by the blue frame, caliber, and adjustable sights.  The date on the barrel wrappers is printed right on it--there is a chance you have a piece without the date showing.
