I have found that the DW 44 has less felt recoil for me than any S&W N frame I've ever owned or shot. Right now, my only DW Large Frame, a model 44 is wearing Pachmayr Decelerator Presentation grips, which I like. I would have preferred some Gripper Grips, but I don't think they were ever made for the DW Large Frames.

What grips do you use especially with .44 magnum factory loads?

My personal favorites are the custom wood grips by LB. I don't shoot "rubber" grips.  I don't like the way they feel and IMHO any reduction in recoil felt to the hand is psychosomatic. I also think they're ugly. I shoot everything I own using wood grips, including my SuperMags, my Freedom Arms .500 Wyoming Express and my Grizzly .50AE.

I originally put an LB Thumb rest on my 741 and liked it very much. Then I got a 7445 and put it on that. I think it really helps with control on that larger caliber. I don't mind the "rubber" grips, especially when it's 100+ during the TX summer.

For the range, I prefer the presentation grip or the Hogue rubber grip. Not for reduction of recoil, but for positive no-slip grip. I love wood, but for me, the rubber is better for shooting. One day I will try a custom thumb rest from LB & maybe that will change my mind.

For me I like the rubber grips for shooting. I have a little better grip on that rubber esp. when it really hot outside. I have some really nice wooden grips including L.B. custom grips. I don't like to shoot with my really nice grips because they can get scarred up sometimes. I would hate to see that with my Zebra or L.B. grips, even though they can handle it fine. JMOP
