I just got back from a big regional show in PA and had a great time looking at all the stuff. I searched every table for DW accessories and/or guns. There were only two DW guns that I could find, one was a very rough mod 15 357 that needed new grips and reblued and the other one was a MINT blued Monson 44 mag with 6 inch barrel. Guess what I brought home with me? The gun is in excellent condition, doesn't appear to have been fired a great deal. The frame is ever so slightly Barney but you need a light to see it. It came in the styrofoam box with card board DW sleeve, with all documentation, manual, cleaning brush, barrel tool and feeler gage and a second ported barrel. The brush and ported barrel don't appear to have ever been used. The gun appears to be a 1981 as there is a congratulatory letter from DW dated April 1981 and the paper covering the second barrel is dated 1981. The gun locks up beautifuly and there is virtually no cyl end float. I'm super excited as I low balled the guy and didn't expect him to take my offer. Being late in the final day of the show, he took my offer after asking another guy at the booth. I can't wait to get to the range and try her out.
I noticed that the trigger is not blued as is the one on my 357, is this common?

Very cool, Scorpio, glad you got a good deal. I was at a gun show in York Pa in October, a guy had a 44 that sounds like yours, maybe it is the same one. It was in superb condition, with the extra ported barrel. He had a little high price, I didnt try to haggle since I was looking for a rifle at the time.
Of course we will expect some

I'm trying to figure out how to post pics, is there a tool for that on the forums? I see you are in Lancaster, I'm outside Harrisburg. The gun you saw could have been this one as the dealer selling it was from E-town and the gun is in superb condition. Todays show was the one at the Farm Show Complex in Harrisburg.

A couple of choices for posting photos, I upload mine to Photobucket and link them into posts.
You can also host your pictures here on DWF:
I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

OK so that was my first attempt at posting pics on here, somehow I didn't get my text inserted. So here it will be.
Sorry for the quality of the pics but only had my cheap camera handy.
Top pic is the new 44 Mag with 6" barrel.
Second pic is my trusty ole 357 with its 6" barrel and DW Pachmyer Presentation grips in the foreground and its new stable mate the 44 in the background.
Third pic 44 on the left, 15-2 357 on the right.
Last pic is the box with the goodies inside, can't see the barrel tool and gap gage but they are behind the gun. The ported barrel is still wraped in the protective paper.
I'll try to get some more artistic pics when I find my better camera.
Need to clean the 357 also sine we were at the range recently, didn't get her scrubbed down yet.
Thanks for looking.

Thanks for sharing the
I remember the first time I held a large frame DW in one hand & my 'ol 15-2 small frame in the other...there was no comparison as to which was the "big dawg" in the room!
One interesting thing I can note on your .44 find...yours is one of the last I've seen thus far of the "early 44's". That is, one of the highest s/n's with a short hammer spur. The earliest long spur (current style) s/n I've seen so far is #11273, so from a collector's viewpoint, yours is a nice find!

Thanks for that bit of info, I wasn't aware of the change over. Seems I got a more collectable piece than I thought, icing on the cake!
I hope to get to the range tomorrow to try a few rounds.
Do any of you 44 owners ever shoot 44 specials? I was thinking of starting with a few rounds of specials and then moving up to the mags. I'm also thinking about when my wife comes along, lower recoil would be a plus in that situation.

I do use 44 sp most of the time. Now that being said, I have let some guys shoot the 44 with full power mags. I did ask them if they wanted ear protection which they declined, regretted that one for a week! So yip if wife wants to shoot it use the Sp, try the mags (you will be impressed)! Great find and enjoy!

44 specials are a dream to shoot, very little recoil and not particularly loud. They're the reason my 13 year old is moving away from 22's. Now he is moving away from his P22 to 38's through my 715. IMO, the specials are definitely the way to go with anybody who might have a problem with magnums.
