Hey brothers, a query about the centreing of the hammer on the dan wesson 715. my dan wesson is a palmer 715 fb. The hammer is slightly off centre, it sits and falls sligtly to the right. it seems to have resulted in some were on the right side of the hammer, please see the pictures for reference , my questions are, is this a common thing? is there anyway to remedy this? changing springs does not seem to make any difference . i have heard that hammer shims have rectified this type of thing in the ruger gp 100, can we do somthing similar?

I would be surprised if the hammer is bent, but it is possible. If not, then I would suspect that the post on which the hammer turns may be bent, or something else may be keeping the hammer from seating all the way down to the frame on the right side thereby causing it to be cocked to the side. Disassemble and check for trash or gunk between the hammer and the frame.
If it's a bent post, you may be able to straighten it, but be very careful & go slow with any change.

I think that the Brilliant Snake-eye is probably correct. The post is press fit in to the frame. A light tap on the post outside of the frame with a punch cushioned with a piece of leather to protect it and the frame may cause it to seat straighter. Make sure the opposite side of the gun is also protected. I had a problem the gave me fits once and that was the cause. And the solution. Let us know how it turns out.

Thanks gents, mabee a new post might be the go, the hammer does not appear to be bent, nor the post for that matter. the post does easely come out when i disassemble my revolver, and it can easely be pushed in to seat it when the revolver is reassembled , but this however does not seem to resolve the hammer leaning slightly to the right, perhaps a new post might fix it, does anyone know the part number for the post? i couldnt seem to find it on the schematic ,
