During cleaning afterward I found something new to me - numbers stamped in the front of the cylinder between chambers. The four numbers correspond to the last four numbers of the serial number on the frame.
This is a Monson gun & none of my other Dans (all Monson - 44s, 744, 15-2, 715 and 22) have this feature.
Just wondering if anyone else has seen it?

Coincidentally, I was giving my 44 a scrubbing last weekend & noticed the same thing for the first time. The numbers are stamped so close to the center shoulder that I almost didn't notice. A few of my single actions have numbers stamped more obviously, but this is the first I've noticed on a DW.
I looked at a few of my small frame guns & don't see numbers on any so far. I'll have to dig out my SM's & have a look-see.

I never noticed so I will have to look now. I imagine it was just a production process to keep the correctly fitted parts together at the factory. Or I could be completely wrong, I thought I was wrong once, but I was mistaken.

I thought I was wrong once too, but it turned out to be MORE than once
I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

OK... so truth be told, I was going to check periodically, as I shot, but just spent the last thirty minutes checking (and fondling) all 24 (Revolver) Dans. Only one has the SN stamped on the front of the cylinder; my 7445 IHMSA. There are a few R and S stamps and a dimple or two on others, but only the one with the SN.
So now; WTH is up with that?

OK, I just looked at all my revolvers and the only one with that stamping is my blue Palmer 445 SM. It has all three digits of its serial number stamped on the cylinder face near the center. My 7445 Plamer doesn't have the stamping, only some 'dimples' stamped on it in various places on the cylinder face. Doesn't seem to be any pattern to the number stamping, at least from what I can see in my collection.

pops2 - I'll be sure to give your offer some thought - OK - no!
I didn't have much ammo or time at the range, so I only got to shoot about 30 rounds. Just to keep from having pains from not having shot it and to keep it from whining.
Anyway, my first impression is that it's just as accurate as the 44's and the action just as smooth, duh, since it's the same. It did seem to have a bit more felt recoil, even with the 8" barrel. That could just be me and my long standing love for my 44's. Still, I really like it and plan to do a lot more shooting as soon as I can get the ammo, especially with the 4" barrel.
In regard to the numbers on the cylinder - I'm wondering if it could be that the guns showing such numbers were special orders of some type and they got numbered to make sure they stayed together with the particular frame. Another one of many possible explanations.
We'll probably never know the answer.

Just at a guess, perhaps parts that had already been fitted to each other were marked as such so they could be matched up after finishing. Most of these seem to be non SS guns.
