I just purchased a 2.5″ heavy shroud for my model 15-2 and noticed upon delivery it wasn't vented (with the usual single vent). Is this an early or late shroud? I wasn't aware any heavy shrouds weren't vented. Is there a story to this?

I'm not sure. I know that standard shrouds could be ordered with or without vents, and although it's pretty rare, I assume heavy shrouds could also be ordered without vents.
There's an article or a brochure somewhere around here that breaks down the shroud options pretty well. I'll see if I can find it.
*EDIT* ok, I found it...
That is scary that I found it that quick...I hope I can remember where I left my car keys tomorrow morning. 😀

palo- the CZ 2 1/2" that I bought was not vented either
mpmax- yours looks like a 2H shroud, Heavy but not Vent. 2" can be a little confusing, the way it appears to works is:
2 (no letter, denotes the Standard shroud) would be solid rib, back cut underlug, angled back about 45 degrees from the muzzle
2H (Heavy) solid top rib, underlug square at the muzzle
2V (Vent) top rib vented with 1 slot, back cut underlug, angled back about 45 degrees from the muzzle
2VH (Vent Heavy) top rib vented with 1 slot, underlug square at the muzzle
In longer shrouds, each additional Vent=2" of length.
While these standards seem to apply to all DW shrouds, a recent GB auction featured a 4VH where the H underlug was cut with the 45 degree back cut. Apparently a custom item, but looked very sharp.
I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.
