Hi all this is my first post, I would really like to know a bit of history re- my first Dan Wesson, it is a 357 with 8" barrel , it has seen a bit of use but still shoots really well ( every handgun I have owned has been been a lot better shooter than the person holding it) I would appreciate any thoughts from you.

Welcome to you PeDal55, and "good day mate", I am a new guy to DWF...I sure do like those grips...I hold no deep knowledge that would be helpful to you...that piece looks as its been around a while, and you have been shooting it on a regular basis...it's a beautiful Revolver for sure.
I met a couple a fellas' from Australia...they were shooting I-cor matches...a Father&Son, they were...hugely skilled with revolvers...but they were shooting S&W's .45 L/colt. but crack pistoleros they were. Say, what is the law with regard to owning and shooting down under now a days ? Great pictures...I'm sure you'll find all the info you need on the DWF.
Cheers, HR let's toss a couple Coopers Barrels back someday!

Ok, here goes...
First you have a fine example of a earlier Monson made 15-2 blued 8" solid ribbed, standard shroud 357 cal. revolver. The front sight is pinned, the rear is a adjustable target style. The grip is an earlier style smooth target grip w/a speedloader recess. Your 6 digit serial # can be compared to the PDF available on the right side of this page.
You should obtain a Barrel Nut removal tool. We reccommend the tool that EWK has made available. Check Eric's web page link on the right side of the page.
Then....check this link to another thread here!
the average joe tune up.

Thanks for the replies Hot Rod and Maxwell Silver, the laws down here aren't too bad, a Category H license holder must attend 4 official competition shoots per year for each caliber owned.
I am a member of the Sporting Shooters Association of Australia (SSAA) and there are many branches dotted around this wide brown land of ours.
I normally compete in the Rimfire and Centerfire Metallic Silhouette competitions at the Bundaberg branch of SSAA which is about 50 miles from where I live.
As to EWK I have emailed Eric and sadly he is unable to ship his products to Australia.I can't see me getting to the US in the near future HR but if you are coming down here I would love to down a couple of with you.

I think this is actually a 5 digit 15-2, and with the pinned front sight I'm guessing it's a probably a 1976 gun. The grip is also correct for "1976-ish".
I'm regularly surprised at how many DW's made the journey Down Under!
I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

Boy, if I understand you correctly I would have to attend 60 official competitions a year to cover my 15 calibers of handguns. That's a lot of competitions and a lot of entry fees and some of that ammo is very expensive (.500 WE is $3.30 each).
Welcome to the DWF.

Welcome PeDal, from the Southeast of USA (SC).
I visited Perth while in the Navy many years ago, 'bout 30 I think. An experience I'll never forget,
My son was on your east coast last summer. He is a Marine with an air squadron. He loved it too.

Hi Mike, sorry I didn't explain the categories properly, down here we have the following- Air Pistol, Rimfire, Centerfire up to .38, Centerfire over .38 and Black Powder so in theory you would only have to shoot a maximum of 20 times ( I think. )
Cheers Pete
