Great site, I'm looking at a 357 DW, 6" bbl. marked Monson, ser.# 2415xx. From my short time looking over the forum, it seems to be from around 1979, am I close? the gun seems to be in good shape, no cylinder slop , some wear on the front bbl shroud, in bright light the frame has a purple cast to it, the bbl is black. needs a good cleaning. It comes with a wrench, 2 speed loaders, and a generic soft case. $300.00 OTD (sales tax, transfer). does this seem like a reasonable price?
I don't know a thing about DW's, anything in particular I should be looking for?
Thanks, Rick

Hey Rick,
Greetings from a newish member. I would read the second topic under the revolver forum: "How to tell if a particular specimen is any good". That is a great price and so if that gun passes muster I would jump on it but then I have dwas stage oneI would also try the barrel wrench out to see if the nut will easily come loose. A stuck barrel nut can be frustrating.
Good luck and keep us informed!

If it is anything the price is right, meaning the Dans can be worked on by the every day person. So pick it up try it out buy some parts from EWK and Enjoy!
300 is a good price these days. See if you can grab some pics and show what you they got. The purple is normal on these and I tend to like it, barney is the name we call it and is someting in blueing from around those years!
Oh I will be corrected if any miss statements!
BTW Welcome to place and know that One Dan Wesson is never enough... Just ask around!!

Thanks for the feedback, I'm going back on Monday, there is one other interested party hope I get there first! If I get it I have to wait 30 days, in MD you can only purchase one every 30 days and just registered a S&W Model 34-1 last week! Oh well gives me a month to read everything I can on this GREAT site.
Any other comments are more than welcome.
Thanks,
Rick

Welcome to the forum. Without seeing it, $300 does sound like a good price. +1 on what others have said. Is the rear sight adjustable? If so, you might want to study some pics of Model 14's versus Model 15's. The front sights are different between the two models and it affects point of aim. It is an easy fix, so I wouldn't let it stop me. Hmmm? .

95xl883, rear sight is adjustable, front is removable, "I think", with red insert-there is a set screw on the muzzle end of the shroud, means removable right? Model 15? Will the EWK sights fit? Look at me, don't even own the gun yet, and already shopping for parts!
Steve CT, MD has a designated collector status, takes 2 to 3 months for approval from the state police, must own at least 2 guns to apply, need to have a collection before you can be a collector!!!!
started reading this forum backwards from page 110, DWAS maybe?
Thanks once again

If it is the straight shroud (not a porkchop) it is a 15-2.
EWK sights will fit just fine.
Buy a second DW, and become a collector. Maybe joining our sister site Dan Wesson Collectors Association (DWCA) would help you verify "Collector" status!
I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

With the serial number has to be a 15-2 and the red insert front sight. The DWC i tried to jion and not accepting new members at this time!
MD needs some new leaders back there! Rick you may want to look at another state to move to such as Kansas, 1 a month won't let you feed your DWAS! Here you could be 30 a month or 60 a month or..... Good luck on the DW hope you beat the other person to it.

I was told at my gun shop that if I buy more than 5 guns in a single day that I will have to fill out an additional form. I can also buy a silencer from him but I will need the apporval of the county sheriff and do lots of paperwork. I don't think I will need one since the armadillos here are so dumb that one shot is all I usually need.

GOT IT !!!!!!
$250.00 gun
$15.00 tax
$10.00 Transfer Fee
$275.00 TOTAL OutTheDoor
Now the wait begins, 30 days and counting. I took some pics with my IPad have to figure out how to post them, don't have a Photobucket account yet.
Came with barrel wrench, feeler gauge, 2 speedloaders, & a soft brown zipper case with DW logo on lower right corner.
One issue when I took the barrel off the whole barrel came out with barrel nut still attached, there is no soot or grime or rust on or around the threads, threads also look fine, I don't think the barrel has ever been off. The gun is very clean but dry. Also the wrench has minor rust under the plastic caps.
A few more questions if I may
What size allen wrenches, and drift punches do I need? I want to put together a dedicated tool box for this gun.
I'll post pics if I can figure it out
Thanks for everyones support.

Nice! Sounds like your getting a nice gun at a great price. Since you have a wait, you can learn a lot in the meantime by reading various threads on the forum, there are threads on barrel changing and a super one on disassembling, cleaning and reassembling the whole pistol. I am betting your barrel threads will be ok just maybe it all needs taken apart and cleaned well.
Check out EWK Arms ad on here for a well made new barrel wrench and save your plastic one, also he has other parts and really nice fiber optic sights. LB Grips makes awesome custom grips in various styles and wood varieties.
Take care of that soft case too, they don't come along often and bring a very nice price if in good condition. For that price, a nice DW .357 with a soft case rates as a
