Hello Everyone:
I am new to the forum and need your advice on how to remove a DW Target (zebrawood) grip without doing damage to the frame or the grip itself. It is mounted on a DW 15-2VH being part of a complete pistol pac. I have removed the grip screw but the grip will not budge. I am hoping someone has had this problem before and has an easy way to remove it. Thanks for your help in advance..........Ron

I had this problem with a set of pac grips. It wasn't easy, I just had to continually push/pull in both directions, and eventually got them off. Then I found out why they were stuck, a bunch of caked up crap down in the grip. Good luck, and if you want to get rid of the grip, let me know!
thanks, brad

Welcome 1974Bronco to the . Sorry to hear you are having trouble with the Zebra grip. It probably likes where it is and won't leave willingly. Maybe some would help it come off…. as you know …..
You should go to the new members thread and give us the lowdown on yourself and your gun (s), there will be (s) after kicks in.

Brad, zebrawood grips are still available from CZ-USA Dan Wesson for small frame revolvers.
Ron, as the others suggested you'll just need to keep working at it. If the screw is out it should come off with some pressure.

Real careful but repeated wiggling front to back, a little light twisting, maybe some careful and well cushioned tapping on the grips with a rubber mallet, a very small shaped charge of C-4 in the grip screw hole (well, maybe not that last one, but you get the idea). Inside the grip there is years of accumulated oil, powder, dust, dampness, etc. that has formed a glue that will takke some patience to overcome.
I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

Sometimes you just need to use a lot of finesse and a lot of brute strength at the same time... Grip in one hand and trigger, hammer, frame in the other....

I've enjoyed a decent success rate with this method in the past, on both wood & rubber grips. Just make sure nobody is within striking distance of your elbows when it cuts loose.

Replace the screw and tighten finger tight, this'll take a second person; loosen grip screw about 2 turns and have a screwhead size dowel, place dowel on screwhead and while holding grip have someone gently tap the dowel with a hammer. If you get movement, try to move and pull apart, if no luck, back out screw 3 more turns and repeat above. A last resort might be to try grain alcohol(90% from liquer store) poured into the screw hole and try movement. The alcohol won't damage the wood, but might dull finish, a good wax will replace gloss, but the alcohol should disolve powder residue. Good luck and keep us informed.

Sorry I have not responded sooner but I wanted to have some good news. I want to thank everyone who responded with advice on removing the zebra wood grip. I tried them all at least three or four times except for the C4 & Wood Chisel. HA. HA. The strength in my hands and forearms has increased from all the effort. I talked with Keith at dwservice@cz-usa.com and he suggested I spray some WD-40 into the grip screw hole with the grip screw removed and let it set for maybe an hour. He stated there would be no damage to the frame finish just use a cloth to cleanup the excess. After about 30 minutes (I could not wait any longer), the grip just popped off with a small amount of force. He was right on, my prayers were answered. Thanks again for all your help and I hope this solution helps someone else....................Ron
PS: I will post some pictures when I learn how!!
