Gentlemen:
I was lucky enough to score a Model 44VH recently. It has a bright blue finish, bull barrel/vent. rib, 6", S/N 0133xx. It also came with two additional grips. The first is a target-smooth exotic wood (ES2). The second is a Pachmayr presentation. It came with it's original box (Monson, MA) and an additional ported barrel. The shroud is not ported.
I have many questions. First...what is this bad boy worth if it is virtually unfired? Can I/should I be using the ported barrel with an unported shroud? If so....what will be the difference? Is there a good place to find additional barrel/shroud lengths? Any suggestions for target loads? Is it really as bad a mofo as it looks?
Please feel free to add any additional thoughts!
Thanks!!

Using the ported barrel in an unported shroud wouldn't have any effect on recoil, as far as I know. It would however, get the inside of your shroud rather sooty & you'd need to take it apart after every 200 rounds or so & clean it out.
Value is hard to judge sometimes. I would imagine that the same setup on Gun Broker would maybe fetch around $500 & maybe even go to $600.
Dan Wesson/CZ still has some barrels & shrouds available (link on the right of this screen). You would need to call them, because they have a bunch of stuff that's not on the web site.

Welcome to the world of Dan Wesson. As stated above CZ/DW still carries parts and barrel assemblies for most DW's. The prices stated above are about right, however if you have all that comes with the original gun; gauge, barrel tool, and manual as well as the box, the price of the parts are sometimes worth more than the complete set. You can also check the various gun auction sites for barrels and shrouds. The ported barrel/shroud sets were problematic, as the gases would vent between the barrel and shroud, even on the ported shroud and if not cleaned after each use; they would become difficult to remove. The new style of porting resolved that problem.
