Hope this is posted in the right place if not feel free to move it. I have the oppournity to purchase my second DW. This one is a 744 VH with 9 3/4 barrel with orginial box and paperwork. The seller says his Dad purchased it new in 1985. Low round count and look NIB. What is a good and fair price?
Thanks,

First, welcome to the DWF.
Second, that's called a 10 inch barrel which is a fairly rare so that adds to it's value.
So, depending on condition, and the number of accessories, such as the original foam box with cardboard sleeve, the original plastic barrel wrench, the original barrel-gapping shim, etc.
It sounds like you have found a pristine one with all of the accessories, I'm going to say that because of the 10 inch barrel, it's probably worth a minimum of about $750. Check some of the auction sites for 744's with 6 or 8 inch barrels to see what they are actually selling for, not what the seller is asking. A lot of them price their weapons fairly optimistically.
We use to have a list of what guns were selling for on GB but I can't find it. Two years ago I bought a pristine 744 with an 8 inch barrel and all of the original stuff for $650.
If this is a friend, don't low-ball him. It's not worth a friendship to save a hundred bucks.

I agree with Zooomb's $750 estimate. The 10" VH is less common than the lighter "V" shroud, presumably because of original buyer's concerns for the gun feeling nose heavy. Most of the nice (non-beater) 44V10 guns I've seen lately have gone for $650 or better.
As suggested, and if you have time to delay your response to your friend, check out what similar guns have recently sold for on GB & Auction Arms, then give your offer accordingly.
I got really lucky & found my 44V10 two years ago for under $500...which is completely abnormal to my usual DW track record. I often pay at or over market value, just because I don't want one to get away.
