A High Standard Sentinel MK III, to go with my MK II & complete the set.
This one went two rounds on GB recently…the first round just because I couldn't make up my mind. The 2nd round, the seller dropped his price a bit & SHOOT threatened to "e-slap" me if I didn't jump on it this time…well, I hate being e-slapped as much as the next guy, so I jumped on it!
It's got some character marks on it, that I saw on the auction pics & some more that I couldn't see, but for just under $300 shipped, I'm happy.
The frame has a bit of Barney going on, with some fading & some rust freckles on the right side.
I noticed immediately that the gun looked well oiled…HOWEVER…the action was as stiff as my bones when I get outta bed in the morning. Today I removed the side cover for a look-see. There was a lot of lube in there, that looked like it had been put there 15 years ago…that stuff was like tar. So I started cleaning up the gooped mess (brake cleaner was the only thing that would soften that crap) & before long the only thing left intact was the firing pin & rear sight!

Now it feels a whole lot better. BTW, off to the left you'll see what the mailman brought me today (perfect timing)…one of EWK's absolutely fantastic barrel nut wrenches. Thanks Eric!!

Yes, DW made these for HS from '73 thru '75, hence their relative rarity...and thus my interest in them as a collector. Here's an informative thread on these guns, with tons of valuable info from the HS guru, John Stimson.

Wow, that is great information on the High Standard connection, thanks so much for the link!!!
Pretty neat they made a porkchop shroud with a recessed nut too...now with all those porkchop shrouds you've got, you have to have a spare you can send me so we can reverse engineer it and get some made!!!! But first lets see how it goes for making the standard shrouds. The steel is scheduled to be arriving tomorrow, that's one step of many!

Hey Steve, Yep, the action cup or PPC is definately on the list...the one thing with that shroud is it would nice to find an original so we could get some dimensions off of them-from what I understand the lower part is an interchangeable weight-would be really nice for the reproductions to be interchangeable with the originals.
Please tell me that one in the picture is yours! 🙂 They're about impossible to find, and on top of that I need to find someone willing to help me out!
Thanks!
Eric
We're getting a little off topic for this post but I'll through my two cents in. Obviously it would be nice for your parts to interchange with the original Action Cup shrouds but I'm not sure there's (I am sure) enough out there to be concerned with that.
Eric I think you should start a topic and ask for feedback from forum members on what they would like in a custom shroud. I know I have some views on this.
Very nice HS CF!
