Im a new owner of a 15-2. Id like to get an outside the waist band holster to carry in the woods. Im planning on carrying it with a 6" barrel. Id like something leather that will hold it tight.
Also if I ever get a 2.5" barrel for it I may try to carry it Inside the waist band too, so any recommendations for that would be great too. Thanks.

Check out http://www.simplyrugged.com . I have two of their holsters. They make the Sourdough pancake holster for the 15-2. It tucks in very nice and you can get straps that will convert it to IWB if you want. I use mine with my 715-2 with a VH2 barrel on it for ccw. I prefer it OWB because it still tucks in and holds the gun securely. I don't think you will be dissappointed with this holster.

In terms of sizing, use Smith & Wesson K frame in the same barrel length as your DW.
Steve, I got an El Paso Threepersons sized for a Colt Python and it fits my DW like it was made for it.

What are the differences as far as carrying with the Simply rugged cattleman vs sourdough? For outside the waist band in the woods/boat/4wheeler? If I ever decide to conceal I will need 2 different holsters as I will carry the 6" in the woods and probably a 2.5" concealed. So right now I just need something that will hold the gun tightly and protect it in the elements.

Those simply rugged holsters look pretty nice, I've seen a lot of good things about the Galco holsters for other handguns, has anyone had any experience with them for their Dan Wesson's?
here is a link to some of the DW holsters that Galco makes.

'K' frame holsters that I have are too tight, and even the Don Hume chart will tell you to use a model 10 holster for Dan Wessons. I have found that holsters made for S&W 'L' frames fit nicely. I have a pic somewhere that compares a 15-2 to a K frame. I'll see if I can find it and post.
