When shooting my .44 mag I often get hot pieces of metal on my support hand. Is this normal for a magnum or is there an alignment problem? Thanks.

Could be a cylinder timing problem. But first, you want to double check your barrel gap & make sure it's not way too wide.

Hi,

I checked the gap. It was not bad at .006 but the cylinder has enough play in it that it will move back if pushed, allowing at least a .015 gauge to slide in with some effort. This might explain the inconsistent groupings at only 25 yards. Should I send it into the factory for reworking?

No, that's normal.  The gap should be .006 without exerting any real pressure on the cylinder.  Sounds like you have a timing issue.  I had a Python that got out of time once--Shot nice chunk of lead into my bicep.  Colt tuned it up, no more spitting.

Any estimate for factory tuning? I called to try and get an estimate for re-bluing and they said I'd have to send it in for them to look at it first. I'd hate to mail it and have some high price quoted. Thanks.

p.s. I've noticed some guns have the SB before the serial #. Is that designate stainless?

Have you considered a local gunsmith with a good rep, failing the will to send it to CZ ? CZ is the best, and frankly you have a problem you need to get it remedied, the cost will leave you with a near refurbished gun so go for it regardless.

deerhunter-

For re-blueing, check with Mark (hotbluer on DWF)

https://www.danwessonforum.com/?page_id=3/parts-and-service/hot-bluing-service

This is the same person you will see offering re-blueing on Guns America and Ebay. He has done work for people on DWF, and does some service and repair work on DW revolvers. He comes highly recommended, and his brother in law is Bob Serva, the man who very successfuly resurrected Dan Wesson and moved the company to New York

I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

I lioke a BC gap of .002 on most of my DW's, if it still appears to be shaving it is a timing issue and CZ is your best bet.  I have never had an exhorbitant price out of them on any gun repairs, they are quite fair in that arena.

FWIW, I agree on CZ repair pricing. That hot metal is definitely a negative, huh Shoot? Ouch! Surprised

Not something I want to experience.  I agree with Phil; get it serviced by DW. I also agree with setting the gap at .002. I have an extra DW .002 gauge which I keep in my shooting bag just in case adjustments have to be made at the range.

Let us know what you find out about the Kimber take-down Issue.
