I found a guy with a Lil' Dan for sale, asking $450 for it, says it hasn't been fired much but I've only seen a few pics. I'll have to drive about 1&1/2 hours to inspect it in person & actually buy it, thoughts about this & Lil Dan's in general would be much appreciated.

That's a fare price in my limited opinion. I paid a couple hundred more for my cheapest purchase of one. I would go look at it, heck he might even knock a little more off. They come around every now and then, I think it fits a person who's a collector, but they are nice.

Well as a firearm do you want or need a snubby 38+P? Or filling a hole in the collection. That is probably a fair ish price in today's market. I have seen them go much higher, have seen them for less, but not lately.
I am sure if you pass someone here will be begging for the info?

It's more of a desire to have different Dan's & this one just intrigued me when I saw it up for sale. I want to get into it for a good enough price that if I decide in a few weeks that I don't like it I can turn it & not lose money.
If it's in decent shape, I don't see how you would lose money on it, pluses on it would be box, paperwork, barrel wrench. Should be noted that the barrel wrench is slightly different. EWKarms was selling some a while back. I'd if it's in decent shape.

They are great little guns. The grip angle, trigger, and balance is perfect...for me anyway. The one I carry is more accurate and smoother than my colts, rugers, S&W, and Taurus. My other one has an original factory bobbed hammer but its never been shot. I got it a few years ago from Walfranz. Recent sell prices on "shooter" grade is 650-700. Add box and all accessories over 1000. EWK still sells wrenches or you trim a little outer diameter from a 15-2 wrench with a dremmel
Let me know if you don't want to buy it !!! Hugelk

Hi Stinger,
Im just wondering what you didn't like about the 738 when you shot it ? I know 4 people including one of the DW factory gunsmiths that use them for CCW. Like any DW a modified average Joe treatment brings it to a higher level than right out of the box. Some parts are still available from the factory. They only made about two thousand so you wont find extra stuff on ebay. The 4" barrel was never produced as the intended market for this was self defense and a 4" would change the balance of the gun in a negative way. They were having cash flow problems too !

I liked shooting the 738, very comfortable. I am not saying they are improper for carry and when they were released, were incredible with the ammo of the day. I am just trying to enable the purchaser to make an informed decision. My intention is not to disrespect the firearm, because for what it was, when it was produced, it was awesome.
But for the size of the frame, you can get a .357 Mag in a smaller package is all I'm saying.
If possible, get a pic of the inside of the top strap for the flame cut..
that may help you determine if it's been shot more or less.
Maybe someone here can start a thread of things to look for when buying a used revolver?

got it to the range today, I was quite surprised at how well it handled +P HP's, very comfortable to shoot. I'm really shocked. The single action is fairly good, the double action is extremely heavy. Here is the picture of my targets, 10 yards, which I consider about the maximum practical range to shoot a snub nose revolver accurately - DA on the left, SA on the right:
I shot the DA 2-4" higher than I was aiming, while the single action was acceptable, but I doubt if I would be shooting a snub nose in SA in a self defense situation.
