But tonight I broke up a seller's Pistol Pack.  mad It was a 15-2 pistol pack with a 2, 4, 6, and 8" barrel set.  Also had two brand new sets of combat grips that were never used.

I know - sacrilege on this forum but up here was just a matter of time.  In Canada, hand guns with barrels 4" and smaller are prohibited guns since 1998.  Anyone that owned such firearms prior to that prohibited law were grandfathered to still be legally allowed to own these guns.  However, you may only sell a prohibited gun to someone else with a prohibited licence, and those ownership numbers are dwindling; therefore the value of prohibited guns is rock bottom up north here.

The seller's DW was registered as a prohibited and therefore had a low value.  I PM'd him and informed him that he could either export it to the USA and get a much better value for it or he could sell the 4" and 2" VH barrels (I even sent him the link of the 2" VH that just sold for $615 USD on eBay) and then have the gun re-registered as a regular hand gun and get a better value.  I told him I wish I had a prohibited licence as I would but it instantly and that I liked the two new sets of DW combat grips he had.  Next he messages me asking me if I'd like to buy those grips. Well....occasion

So I first bought his two new combat grips (still in original DW boxes) and then the discussion turned when he asked if I would like to buy the 8" and 6"VH barrels - both unfired.  In fact, the gun only had 20 rounds fired down the 4" barrel - the 2" is new as well.  So, instead of buying new reloading gear I am now the owner of two new barrels and two sets of new, original DW combat grips.   drool  I paid fair prices, too - the seller is quite happy and so am I.

Pics when they show up.  I'm not sure what I will do with the barrels to be honest, but I will figure that out soon enough.  Now, I test my patience waiting for the mail.....

Well you kept part of it in the family anyway!   Glad you were able to save parts of the pac!

I wouldn't say breaking up the pac is sacrilege, particularly given the laws of the Country. Looking forward to the pics.

Thanks gents.  The plot thickens.  I awake to an email stating that the owner intends to have the 2"VH destroyed and the body reclassified as restricted, meaning I could buy the frame (without the 4"VH).  That'll be an easy decision.

I suggested that he exports the two prohibited barrels to the US, we'll see what he says about that idea.  If he says yes, I will post a thread up here to gauge interest.

If you never actually screwed the shorter barrels onto the gun and fired it, wouldn't that make it an acceptable non-prohibited gun? I don't see why it would be considered "prohibited" if the shorter barrels are in close proximity to the frame, if you never actually use those "offensive" barrels. You could even remove them from the case & put them in a drawyer...there, "can't see me!"

I can see something like a snubby Colt being prohibited, because the barrel is permanently mounted, but with a DW, it's a stretch. Quite the moronic gun law, IMHO.

You bet it's stupid.  Manufacturers now just sell a 4.2" barrel - that's legal.  The justification at the time was that those smaller revolvers were too easy to conceal and therefore they should be banned from future ownership.  Now, there are some pistols that even though they have a 4.2" barrel, the overall length is shorter than older guns with a 4" barrel - yet the barrel length is all that matters for the law.

I tried telling the seller to have the gun registered as restricted with the 6" barrel but he didn't seem to want to do that for whatever reason.  So, I bought those barrels.  He now seems to have a change of mind, we shall see what happens.

FWIW, the sale of the 2 1/2 BA on ebay for $615 was an ebay screwup. I was high bidder on that BA and the price registered was conflated  with the immediately preceeding  sale by the same seller, a 10 " V BA. The seller, whom is a forum member graciously voided the sale and was penalized financially by fleabay.

SO the seller has confirmed that he can keep the 2"H barrel and sell the frame and remaining barrel.  As my interest was sustained, his pricing went up.  I'm going to see if it is worth it to go all in now.

Shouldn't have mentioned the high price on the 2.5er. It was a fluke as it turned out anyway. They are very high end at 325.

Well, the seller was a true gentleman and even offered to give me some money back if I didn't want the rest of the kit.  Anyways, it ended up that I bought the pack without the 2" barrel (but he is sending the 2H shroud) for $915 CDN shipped.  The 6"H and 8"H have never been fired.

I explained to the seller the 2VH auction was a mess up on eBay's behalf.  I believe in being open and honest and it worked in my advantage on this one; I respect the seller's great demeanour and virtue.

Soon I'll have matching 15-2's   dwas
