Better late than never...I finally got my butt to the range yesterday.
IHMSA, you're not kidding about the boom, that thing was really echoing off the hillside yesterday! I was wearing earplugs & muffs (because lately my muffs haven't been working well enough on .44's) & I could hear at least three echo's for each .445 round fired.
I ran through 20 of Reed's 300g XTP loads & was pleasantly surprised that the recoil wasn't as harsh as I was expecting. The heavy shroud helped a lot, I'm sure...the recoil is about equal to my Super Blackhawk .44, although the way it hits is different of course. This one hits more straight back, being a double action.
Like my other SM's, it spits a bit of powder on my face with most shots, but nothing excessively annoying. My M40 is actually a little worse, so I've decided that's just how SM's like to play.
I tell ya what though...you hit a gallon water jug with this thing & it absolutely obliterates that sucker! That was fun!
I brought an empty propane tank too, and was surprised by the way it hit it. Usually a .44 will tear big holes in the tank, the .445 sorta hit it & sent it flying, it only tore two holes in it...I'm not exactly sure whay that is.
One of the bullets actually turned itself inside-out, spitting most of the lead into the hole & leaving the jacket pasted to the tank like a SM flower!
That hit sent the tank flying about 10 feet.
Overall, this is a fun gun to shoot. The trigger is not near as light as my .375 (which has certainly been fine tuned), but has a nice feel nonetheless. I have 20 more rounds, but didn't wanna shoot them all just yet. I'll cave that day for after I start reloading these things, then it will be more fun going through 100 rounds at a time.
Whoever had it before, had the sights set waay out there...I.E. way further than I can shoot standing. So I had to bring 'em in closer. The sights on this one are the same as my .375 & I like 'em. The front sight fills the rear window perfectly, with no wiggle room.

CF,
Great report, I see you like the big boom theory too! That is really odd that the jacket stuck on the propane tank like that, would have thought it went right through? I have been storing up plastic jugs for an outing with the big guns too, just can't find the place that permits shooting at jugs just yet..
