When i bought my wifs 15-2 it was pretty well holster worn. It also had a few rusty spots under the rubber grip that came on it. So I decided that a good hot blue was in order. Well I have the gun and decided to give it not only a good inspection but to do so in comparison to the other two original blued 15-2's.
Interesting notes:
- my original bought in 1986 is the NEWEST of the three with SN 37xxxx the oldest is a 30xxxx (note number x's is not correct).
- My gun has slotted screws for the rear sight, others have hex
- My rear sight only moves a back plate, the others move a whole piece
- On mine there is a screw sticking out from the back of the trigger guard, its not on the other two.
Well for the blue job… not completely happy and not sure what to do.. the smith did not retain the "mat finish" on the top strap, nor on the barrel. To be sure the rough texture is less shiney, but its nothing like the original finishes.
Lastly, my wifes gun has "play" in the transfer bar when the hammer is held back the trigger pulled on. Neither mine nor the other gun display this. I suspect internal wear.
With the blue job, I have $575 invested in the gun. I think I will be more careful in the future and consider the finish with a more critical eye.

DWF member "hotbluer" is indeed Mark Waldo aka-Blue Ridge Bluing. He was the bluer for Dan Wesson, and is Bob Serva's brother in law. He has done quality work for several DWF Members, if I needed bluing, he'd be the guy.
I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

that is good to know! sorry to hear about the bad experience pinetor... that smith usually does good work...
Well I would not say the work is not good... the bluing is very good. Its just that, I had hoped the mat like finish would be retained and it does not appear to been.
