I just picked this up on gun broker a few minutes ago. It may not have the unfluted cylinder that I wanted but it comes with a spare barrel shroud and it's stainless. I hope that rigged up scope base/ring arrangement didn't damage the vent rib too bad. I'm going to take that crap off and put the right hardware on it. Then I'm going to have some devious fun by putting that scope on 444 Marlin contender barrel so I see how many shots it takes to blow the cross hairs out of it. I think $1200 was a good deal considering the last stainless one that I saw back in March went for almost $1900. By the way, it's a Monson Supermag which seems to be the most favored of the 3.

could you tell me what kind of rings those are? I have been thinking of a set-up like the for my 6 inch barrel but want to get it right the first time.

Jake, they look like Millet rings. If you want I can sell you the ones on the gun dirt cheap, then you can have that crazy open sight set up in the picture. I'll have the gun in about 3-4 weeks. PM me if you want me to set them aside for you. I'm going with a nice silver base from Dan Wesson, so I won't need them.

well specifically what kind of rings? Are they meant to mount to a dovetailed reciever? Has anyone ever used this set up and how well does it hold it's zero? I'd have to think about thos rings though man ....That iron sight set up...while interesting....is a little bit overkill I think and probably not very functional. (no offense)

I've actually got a set of those rings too, they came with a shroud I got on an auction, and they are specifically for vent rib barrels, however I already had a scoped shroud and took them off and ended up using them on my springer air gun, as the mounts that came with it vibrated loose and were only 2, so I made a 3 mount with the rib set and they've been on it in use for 3 years and are still tight.

No offense taken, I was thinking the same thing. I don't have the gun yet nor have I seen it in person but they do look like Millet rings that someone modified to accept open sights. So I have no way of knowing if they actually work. I hope the person who did them tested them out before they did the work. If I were you, I would go with either the Dan Wesson base or something similar. Warne has a great scope base that you can used with open sights while the base is mounted to the rib without the scope. The matching rings have a quick release lever so you can remove them and use your iron sights. Every post I've read about them in forums state that they hold a zero. My only gripe with some of the bases available is that they position the barrel to far forward. I even saw one base on Ebay that screwed into both the barrel rib and the backstrap of the frame. It was made for a Dan Wesson which made no sense because the barrels are removable.
