I can't believe my bid held up (and it was not even close to my max). I'm working out the delivery details but hope to have it within a week. I promise pics will be up shortly after I get it. I'll order the new hammer and probably a spare cylinder tomorrow. I'm guessing I should put new springs in it while I'm giving it a thorough cleaning. I'll order some ammo for it also. Here's hoping I don't have to improve too much to actually hunt with it. (I know to practice various positions, sitting, prone, Keith, etc and need to get six shots on a paper plate to determine the greatest distance I can hunt.)

Thanks guys. The spousal unit wasn't too unhappy. I've spoken with the seller. Seems like a good, straight up guy. Payment is on its way. I'm mailing a check to Eric tomorrow for a wrench, guide and a fiber optic sight. Dan Wesson will only sell the hammer and/or cylinder to a FFL, but they will ship it to me. The one that I want to use is open tomorrow so that'll be done tomorrow.
Hope to have it in a week and up and running in two, then it's ,

Thanks Blacktop. I'm going to stick with stainless. It is going to be fun when it gets here.

Yay! I received my SM on Friday. (It has been a busy weekend and I wanted to fire it before I started posting about it.)
It made quite an impression at the gunsmith/FFL where I picked it up. The FFL was commenting on its size. The gunsmith said the lockup could be better and that he could tighten it (I asked) but he told me to shoot it first. He was impressed there is a source for new barrel wrenches. A customer came in with an old military rifle (It looked like a Garand to me, but I was too busy with paperwork and such to pay it much attention) but he kept turning his head to look at it. Another customer walked in with his week old GP100 (nice gun, nice guy). Asked if he could hold my SM. He kept commenting how great it was. Mentioned he was in trouble with his wife for buying the GP100. He made me an offer for my SM (more than I paid for it) but I told him no. His wife called and he was telling her about the SM. Kept saying she should see this gun. Although it wasn't on speakerphone, we could hear his wife yelling at him. At no point did he say he wasn't buying it and that it wasn't for sale. He just kept saying how nice it was. As I left, he jokingly told me to watch my back saying someone might jump me for it. He doesn't even own a DW and was hitting him hard.
I'll post pics tonight. It is what I expected. While the grip is in good shape, this thing was either fired a lot or never got a good cleaning and was put away dirty. I'm going with the former based on the carbon rings in the cylinder. It's obviously been fed both 38 specials and supermags. I gave it an initial light cleaning (barrel and cylinder) and spent 3 hours Friday evening reading the gunsmithing section here. I'm anxious for the new hammer and cylinder to arrive. I think my plan of using the old cylinder for specials and magnums and the new cylinder
I put 8 rounds (just magnums, not supermags) through it yesterday. Man this thing is loud! I felt a little bad shooting it with the family just 4 stalls to my right. Not much recoil. The weight really keeps that in check.
It does have an issue. There were FTF in three of the chambers. The primers had obviously been struck but no fire. To my bad eyes, it seems the bullets seat just a little farther in. There is no wear on the cylinder to indicate that it's worn, dented, etc. Bullets from those three chambers fired fine through the other three chambers. As my youngest was with me, I put it away and we went to the DW 22. I'll post pics of what we did to that target tonight. We had a blast.
Overall, the SM is a great gun. Way high on the cool and manly factors! The short range plan is to dis-assemble and give it a thorough cleaning. (The trigger was loosening up just from those eight shots. I'm sure it's filthy inside.) The barrel wrench should be here soon (Thanks Eric). (The b/c gap is way too wide at .009.) I'll fire it again and see what difference a thorough cleaning makes. (Thanks in advance to Shoot and SM for the great writeups on the internals. I've got them printed off and ready for reference.)
I'll get pics up tonight.

The top barrel in the photo is one of the IHSMA barrels, I believe, it should be slightly lighter than the standard as it's milled a little thinner to insure it made weight. I got one with a barrel shroud set I got a few years back. Congrats on a great score. If you don't reload, you should consider it as you can load down the max's and reload the brass several times. They also shoot best with 180gr to 200gr cast bullets, the weight they were designed to shoot as they were made to knock down steel rams in competition. It will easily take deer to 150yds or at least mine has.

Congrats on that new pistol. It looks great! It must have been a quick draw pistol for them to bob the hammer. It still looks great. I have a 357 Max T/C. I shot it once without ear plugs. I will never do that again. It has a super high piercing sound that will bust your ear drums. That hammer may come in good later keep it.
