This began in May when my wife did my bidding for me on GB, won, and later picked up the gun. I was out of town with a very unreliable wi-fi connection.
When she picked up the gun she met an NRA certified instructor, Alan Grossmann, who told her about the course(s) he teaches.
FFWD to last week at the range, Alan was using the next booth for instruction. My wife introduced us and the next thing I knew we were registered for his class. MY wife and I have been shooting together for 35 years and we each shot with our families before that. However, neither of us had ever had any formal instruction.
We took the classroom session on Saturday and last night we met Alan at the range for qualifying. After qualifying he went outside for a smoke before grading our written tests. We shot some more and then put our gear in the car. Alan was having a conversation with a couple.
The couple went to their car and Alan said to me, "That was Mass". So I flagged them down before they got out of their parking space and I got to meet Massad Ayoob. I have been reading his columns in American Handgunner for 20 or 25 years. It was good to meet the man behind those columns. I expected someone very serious and cool, as his articles are that way. However, the man himself is extremely friendly and cordial. He teaches advanced courses along with Alan and I hope to be able to take some of those courses in the future.
It was a good night at the range.
BTW, I also learned some things which should help to improve my accuracy.

Mike,
Nice report and interesting history about you and your wife being life long shooters. I hope to meet someone with whom to do the same before too long. And I could use some instruction to improve my accuracy also; never to proud to admit my shortcomings.
Let us know some of the techniques you will surely learn.
